District Legal Services Authority Gautam Buddh Nagar will organize a National Lok Adalat across the district on May 09, 2026, to facilitate speedy settlement of various pending and pre-litigation cases through mutual agreement and reconciliation. The event will be conducted at the district headquarters as well as at all tehsil courts in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The National Lok Adalat is being organized under the directions of Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority and the District Judge of Gautam Buddh Nagar. Secretary (Full-Time) of the District Legal Services Authority Shivani Rawat stated that the initiative aims to provide accessible, affordable, and speedy justice to the public through settlement-based resolution of disputes.
According to officials, a wide range of disputes and legal matters will be taken up during the National Lok Adalat. These include compoundable criminal cases, family disputes, motor accident claim matters, electricity and water-related disputes, cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, land revenue disputes, service-related matters, and several pre-litigation cases.
Apart from these, other disputes suitable for settlement through mutual consent and reconciliation will also be considered during the Lok Adalat proceedings. Authorities have emphasized that cases where both parties are willing to resolve disputes amicably will receive priority during the event.
Officials explained that the National Lok Adalat serves as an effective mechanism for reducing the burden of pending court cases while ensuring faster justice delivery. Unlike traditional court proceedings that may continue for years, Lok Adalat settlements are completed through agreement between both parties, helping save valuable time and legal expenses.
The decision given in a Lok Adalat carries the same legal status as a court decree and is considered final in most situations. This makes the process highly beneficial for litigants seeking quick and peaceful settlement of disputes without prolonged litigation.
Family disputes and motor accident compensation matters are expected to form a major part of the cases listed for settlement. Similarly, cheque bounce disputes under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act are also likely to witness significant resolution during the event. Authorities believe that settlement through Lok Adalat can help parties avoid lengthy legal procedures and maintain cordial relations.
Special focus will also be placed on resolving utility-related disputes involving electricity and water bills. Public service-related disagreements often remain pending for long periods, causing inconvenience to both departments and consumers. Officials are hopeful that the National Lok Adalat will help clear many such cases efficiently.
Pre-litigation cases will receive special attention during the event. These are disputes that have not yet reached formal court proceedings but can still be resolved through negotiation and mutual settlement. Authorities believe that resolving such matters at an early stage can reduce unnecessary litigation and prevent future legal complications.
The District Legal Services Authority has stated that Lok Adalats play a crucial role in promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in India. These platforms provide ordinary citizens with simple, affordable, and people-friendly access to justice. The process is especially useful in resolving banking matters, family conflicts, minor criminal disputes, and public utility-related cases.
Officials have appealed to residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar to participate actively in the National Lok Adalat and take advantage of the opportunity for quick dispute resolution. Litigants involved in eligible cases are being encouraged to approach the concerned authorities and cooperate in the settlement process.
The administration is coordinating with courts, legal officers, and government departments to ensure smooth conduct of the event. Preparations are being made to maximize case disposal and facilitate effective settlement of disputes through proper planning and public participation.
Legal experts believe that National Lok Adalats significantly strengthen the justice delivery system by reducing case backlogs and promoting amicable settlement of disputes. Such initiatives also help build public confidence in accessible and efficient legal mechanisms.
With extensive preparations underway, authorities are expecting a large number of cases to be resolved during the National Lok Adalat in Gautam Buddh Nagar on May 09. The initiative reflects continued efforts to make the legal system faster, more transparent, and more responsive to the needs of the public.
