Gautam Buddh Nagar | March 14, 2026 — The National Lok Adalat held in Gautam Buddh Nagar on March 14 successfully disposed of 926,280 cases, according to District Judge Atul Srivastava. The event was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp in the district court auditorium in the presence of judicial officers.
The Lok Adalat was organised in compliance with the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow. The proceedings were conducted under the guidance and supervision of District Judge Atul Srivastava at the district court complex and at various tehsil-level courts across the district.
Large Number of Cases Settled at Court and Pre-Litigation Stage
According to Shivani Tyagi, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, a total of 227,807 cases were disposed of by judicial officers working in district courts.
At the pre-litigation stage, various departments and institutions settled 698,473 cases. These included:
Revenue courts: 102,745 cases
Banks: 280 cases with recovery of ₹3.46 crore
- NPCL: 107 cases with settlement amount of ₹82 lakh
- UPPCL: 5,678 cases
- Labour Court: 1,013 cases with settlement amount of ₹706.30 crore
- Police Department: 18,478 cases
- BSNL: 21 cases
- Medical Department: 72,733 cases
- Traffic Department: 461,213 cases
Thus, a total of 698,473 pre-litigation cases were settled through the National Lok Adalat.
Settlement by Various Courts
Several courts in the district also disposed of cases during the Lok Adalat. Among them:
Commercial Court–I: 7 cases with settlement amount of ₹52.35 lakh
Commercial Court–II: 11 cases with settlement amount of ₹1.72 crore
Family Court: 70 cases
Motor Accident Claims Tribunal: 35 cases with settlement amount of ₹2.6 crore
POCSO Court and other Additional District Courts: multiple cases settled
Chief Judicial Magistrate Court: 337 cases
Civil Judge Courts and Additional Civil Courts: thousands of cases disposed with fines and settlements
Additionally, 171,000 traffic challans were disposed of through the virtual court system.
Cases Settled by Authorities and Administrative Departments
Under the National Lok Adalat, several administrative bodies also resolved cases, including:
Noida Industrial Development Authority: 5,500 cases
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority: 305 cases
Revenue authorities, including the District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and Tehsildars, disposed of 102,745 revenue-related cases.
Total Settlement Amount
Officials stated that the total settlement amount recorded during the National Lok Adalat in Gautam Buddh Nagar reached ₹8,529,999,900.
The large number of cases resolved through the Lok Adalat highlights the effectiveness of this mechanism in providing speedy and amicable dispute resolution, reducing the burden on regular courts while delivering timely justice to citizens.
