30 March 2026, New Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended a grand mass wedding ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where she blessed 51 newly married couples. Addressing the gathering, she stated that the event was not merely a wedding ceremony but a celebration of dignity, empowerment, and respect for daughters, reflecting a broader commitment to social harmony and inclusion.

The Chief Minister emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the values of equality and collective responsibility in society. She noted that the ceremony represents an effort to connect socially capable sections with families in need, creating an environment of cooperation and mutual support. According to her, the programme goes beyond marriage and serves as a meaningful step toward ensuring a secure, respectful, and self-reliant future for young women.

Focus on Dignity and Empowerment of Women

Rekha Gupta highlighted that daughters were accorded the same level of respect and dignity that every family aspires to provide during a wedding. She described the initiative as an example of social harmony, where collective efforts contribute to uplifting individuals and strengthening societal bonds.

She further stated that such programmes not only bring positive social change but also reinforce the sense of responsibility towards women’s empowerment. The Delhi Government, she added, remains committed to encouraging initiatives that promote inclusivity, sensitivity, and equal opportunities in society.

Presence of Dignitaries and Spiritual Leaders

The ceremony was conducted in the presence of prominent dignitaries and spiritual leaders, adding significance to the event. Among those present were former President of India Ram Nath Kovind and his spouse Savita Kovind, along with Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse.

The event was held under the spiritual guidance of Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj, whose presence added a ceremonial and cultural dimension to the proceedings.

Comprehensive Support for Newly Married Women

A key highlight of the programme was the provision of comprehensive support aimed at ensuring the empowerment and independence of the brides. Each bride was provided with financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to help her begin her new life with stability and confidence.

In addition, training support worth up to ₹1 lakh was announced to enhance skill development and create employment opportunities, enabling the beneficiaries to move towards self-reliance.

To promote continued education, each bride received a laptop along with digital learning resources, ensuring that their academic pursuits are not interrupted after marriage. This initiative aims to strengthen access to education through digital platforms and encourage lifelong learning.

Health and Security Measures

The programme also focused on health and safety. Each bride was provided with health insurance coverage of up to ₹7.5 lakh for a period of three years, with the premium fully covered by the organizing institution. This measure ensures access to quality healthcare and financial security during medical emergencies.

Strict verification procedures were followed to ensure safety, including thorough background checks of the grooms. This step was taken to safeguard the interests and well-being of the brides, reinforcing trust and accountability within the programme.

Symbolic Participation and Social Message

Adding a unique dimension to the ceremony, 51 IAS and IPS officers participated in the rituals, performing kanyadaan and panigrahan ceremonies. This symbolic gesture underscored the collective responsibility of society towards supporting and empowering daughters, setting an example for others to follow.

The mass wedding ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium highlighted the importance of social initiatives that promote dignity, empowerment, and equal opportunities for women. By combining cultural traditions with modern support systems such as financial assistance, education, and healthcare, the event demonstrated a comprehensive approach to social welfare.

The event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium celebrated marriage as a step towards dignity, empowerment, and social inclusion for women.

As emphasized by Rekha Gupta, such initiatives are crucial in building a more inclusive and equitable society, where every individual is given the opportunity to lead a secure and dignified life.
