Tesla’s much-anticipated entry into India continues to gather momentum, with the electric vehicle giant opening its latest showroom in Delhi. This launch comes just weeks after the company inaugurated its first Indian store in Mumbai, marking another significant step in Tesla’s expansion across key metropolitan cities.
The new showroom, strategically located at Worldmark 3 in Aerocity, sits near the Indira Gandhi International Airport and is set to retail the Tesla Model Y crossover — imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) from China.
Long-Term Presence in Aerocity
Tesla has secured an 8,200 sq ft space at Worldmark 3 on a nine-year lease. According to real estate firm CRE Matrix, the monthly rent begins at ₹17.22 lakh (₹210 per sq ft) and will rise by 15% every three years. The lease agreement was officially registered on July 30, 2025, indicating Tesla’s long-term commitment to operating in Delhi.
Model Y Variants for India
For the Indian market, Tesla offers the Model Y in two specific variants:
1. Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) — Equipped with a 60 kWh battery, it delivers a claimed range of 500 km on a single charge. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 5.9 seconds, and the top speed is 201 km/h.
2. Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (Long Range RWD) — Powered by a larger 75 kWh battery, it offers an extended range of 622 km and slightly quicker acceleration, reaching 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, while maintaining the same top speed of 201 km/h.
Both variants come with 19-inch crossflow alloy wheels and support Tesla’s Supercharging network, which can add up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.
Pricing and Customization Options
The Model Y RWD starts at ₹59.89 lakh, while the Long Range RWD is priced at ₹67.89 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). Customers looking for advanced driving technology can opt for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) package for an additional ₹6 lakh.
Six exterior colours are available, with Stealth Grey offered as the standard choice. The interiors are available in black or white in a five-seat configuration. Heated seats are standard for both rows, while the front row also features ventilation.
Booking and Delivery
Customers can reserve their Model Y via Tesla’s official India website or by visiting showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, or Gurugram. However, as of now, deliveries and vehicle registrations are only available in these three cities. Handover for the Model Y is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.
Tesla’s Growing Indian Footprint
The opening of the Delhi showroom is part of a broader expansion strategy. Recently, Tesla leased 33,000 sq ft in Gurugram’s Orchid Business Park to establish a combined service centre and sales outlet. This facility comes with a monthly rent of ₹40 lakh, highlighting Tesla’s plans to provide both sales and after-sales support in the NCR region.
Tesla is also building the backbone of its charging infrastructure in India. The company opened its first Supercharger station on August 4, 2025, located in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This move is critical for encouraging EV adoption, as fast-charging facilities reduce range anxiety and support long-distance travel.
Why Delhi Matters for Tesla ?
Delhi’s Aerocity is a prime retail and business district, well-connected to the airport, metro lines, and major highways. Its upscale location makes it a fitting home for a premium electric brand like Tesla. Furthermore, Delhi-NCR is one of India’s largest markets for luxury vehicles, with growing consumer interest in electric mobility thanks to government incentives and improving charging infrastructure.
With rising fuel prices, environmental awareness, and supportive EV policies, Tesla’s arrival is timed to capture an audience ready to make the switch to electric driving.
The Model Y is Tesla’s global bestseller, thanks to its balance of performance, range, and practicality. By offering both a standard RWD and a Long Range RWD, Tesla caters to buyers who prioritise affordability as well as those seeking maximum range. While the company is currently focusing on CBU imports, industry insiders expect Tesla to explore local assembly in the future to reduce costs and qualify for additional incentives. The recent lease agreements and investment in charging stations suggest that Tesla is laying a strong foundation for long-term growth in India.
In the coming months, Tesla is likely to expand deliveries to other cities, open more showrooms, and roll out additional Supercharger locations. The success of the Model Y in India will be an important indicator for the brand’s future product launches, which could eventually include the Model 3 sedan and even the futuristic Cybertruck.
For now, the Delhi showroom opening signals that Tesla is not just testing the waters but is committed to becoming a serious player in India’s fast-evolving EV market.
