New Delhi, 01 April 2026: The Delhi Secretariat hosted a grand cultural celebration on the occasion of Odisha Day, highlighting the rich heritage and traditions of the state of Odisha. The event was organized by the Department of Art, Culture and Language, Government of Delhi, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from artists and attendees alike. The program aimed to celebrate India’s cultural diversity while reinforcing the spirit of national integration through artistic expression.

The event was graced by Kapil Mishra, who extended his greetings to the people of Odisha on behalf of the Delhi government. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the importance of such cultural events in strengthening unity and mutual respect among different states. He highlighted that these celebrations are aligned with the vision of Narendra Modi and the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative, which promotes cultural harmony and national integration.

Cultural Performances Reflect Odisha’s Heritage

The highlight of the event was a series of traditional dance performances that beautifully showcased Odisha’s vibrant cultural identity. Artists performed the renowned Sambalpuri dance, along with the popular Rangabati folk presentation and the traditional Ras Jamudali dance. These performances captivated the audience with their colorful costumes, rhythmic music, and expressive storytelling rooted in local traditions.

Rangabati and Ras Jamudali are deeply connected to the Sambalpuri cultural tradition and often depict themes from rural life and the timeless love stories of Radha and Krishna. In addition to these, tribal dance performances were also presented, reflecting the diversity within Odisha’s cultural landscape. Around 15 artists participated in the event, delivering energetic and engaging performances that left the audience mesmerized.

Speaking on the occasion, Kapil Mishra highlighted Odisha’s contribution to India’s cultural richness. He noted that the state is globally recognized for its ancient civilization, temple architecture, handicrafts, classical dance forms, and folk traditions. He further stated that Odisha has played a significant role in shaping India’s cultural and economic history through literature, spirituality, and maritime trade.

Promoting Unity Through Cultural Celebrations

The minister also underlined the role of cultural programs in promoting unity among citizens. He said that under the leadership of Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is organizing foundation day celebrations of various states to encourage cultural exchange and appreciation. Such initiatives help people understand and connect with traditions beyond their own regions, thereby strengthening the idea of unity in diversity.

He further acknowledged the contribution of people from Odisha to the development of Delhi, stating that their efforts have played an important role in shaping the city’s progress. By celebrating Odisha Day, the government aims to recognize these contributions while also providing a platform to showcase the state’s rich heritage.

The event was organized by the Sahitya Kala Parishad under the Department of Art, Culture and Language. It saw a significant turnout, with officials, artists, and members of the public attending the program. The enthusiastic response from the audience reflected a growing interest in cultural events that celebrate India’s diverse traditions.

The Odisha Day celebration at the Delhi Secretariat successfully highlighted the richness of Odisha’s cultural heritage while reinforcing the importance of unity and inclusiveness. Through vibrant performances and meaningful interactions, the event served as a reminder of India’s shared cultural legacy and the need to preserve and promote it for future generations.
