New Delhi, 1 April 2026 – In a swift and decisive response to a long-standing traffic concern in North-West Delhi, Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw has instructed railway authorities to conduct a site inspection at Badli Railway Station. The directive comes after Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta raised the issue of persistent traffic congestion in the area and urged immediate construction of a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) to address the problem.
The proposal for the ROB aims to create a vital connectivity link between Badli Railway Station and Rohini Sector 18 Metro Station (T-Point). This strategic infrastructure development is expected to alleviate severe traffic congestion, improve commuter mobility, and reduce the daily travel time of thousands of residents who currently face long delays during peak hours.
Speaker Shri Gupta, in his communication to the Union Railway Minister, referenced a letter from Shri Aahir Deepak Chaudhary, MLA from Badli, highlighting the acute challenges faced by daily commuters. According to the MLA’s letter, the existing underpass, constructed decades ago for a much smaller population, is no longer sufficient to accommodate the volume of vehicles that pass through the area every day. The underpass now faces severe traffic stress, causing delays that often last two to three hours during peak commuting periods.
Shri Gupta emphasized that residents of Rohini, who travel daily to industrial and residential areas such as Samaypur, Siraspur, and Libaspur, are particularly affected. The heavy congestion not only disrupts daily commutes but also impacts the movement of essential services. School buses, DTC buses, ambulances, and fire services frequently get stuck in traffic gridlocks, posing significant risks to public safety and increasing the likelihood of delays in emergency response.
The Speaker underscored that the construction of the ROB would not only ease traffic in Badli and Rohini but also enhance overall connectivity with UER-II (Urban Extension Road-II) and key national highways, improving regional transport infrastructure and supporting the city’s growing residential and commercial needs. He requested that the matter be prioritized in the public interest, noting the potential benefits for thousands of daily commuters and residents.
The decision by the Union Railway Minister reflects a prompt response to the Delhi Assembly’s initiative and the sustained advocacy of local representatives. The site inspection by railway officials will be the first step toward planning and implementing a modern, efficient Railway Over Bridge, designed to meet current traffic requirements and accommodate future growth in the area.
Traffic congestion in Badli has been a growing concern over the years due to rapid urban expansion, increasing population density, and rising vehicle numbers. The existing underpass, though functional in its early years, has struggled to cope with the present demand, causing chronic delays and affecting the quality of life for local residents. By prioritizing the ROB, the Delhi administration and the Union Ministry of Railways aim to modernize infrastructure, enhance commuter safety, and reduce travel time in one of the busiest corridors of North-West Delhi.
This initiative also highlights the proactive role of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in infrastructure advocacy, ensuring that critical concerns affecting citizens’ daily lives are communicated effectively to the Union Government. By combining local representation with central support, the Badli ROB project is expected to serve as a model for coordinated urban traffic management and infrastructure improvement in rapidly developing regions.
The upcoming steps will include detailed site inspections, planning, design approvals, and execution timelines for the ROB. Authorities have assured that the construction will prioritize minimal disruption to existing traffic while accelerating the implementation process to deliver tangible benefits to commuters at the earliest.
With the commencement of this project, daily commuters, commercial transport services, and emergency responders in Badli and Rohini can anticipate substantial reductions in travel time, smoother traffic flow, and safer road conditions. The proactive measures taken by Shri Vijender Gupta and the Union Ministry of Railways mark a significant step toward resolving long-standing traffic challenges in North-West Delhi.
