Noida, April 16: In a significant development, Laxmi Singh revealed that the recent violence in Noida during a labour protest had links to Pakistan-based social media activity. According to the police, certain anti-social elements attempted to hijack the workers’ movement by spreading false narratives through online platforms.

The police investigation found that two social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter) were continuously active from Pakistan and were involved in spreading misleading information. These accounts allegedly amplified rumours on April 13, which contributed to unrest and escalated the situation into violence. Authorities have stated that credible evidence supporting these claims has been identified, and further investigation is ongoing.

Fake Narratives Fueled Tensions

The Police Commissioner explained that while the situation had initially been brought under control on April 13, attempts were made later in the day to spread false information. Misleading claims, including rumours of worker deaths due to police firing, were circulated widely through these social media handles.

These posts quickly went viral, triggering panic and anger among workers who were returning home after the situation had calmed earlier. As a result, tensions flared up again, leading to further disturbances.

Based on these findings, cases have been registered against the two X accounts at Sector 20 police station. During the course of investigation, details received from the platform confirmed that the accounts were being operated from Pakistan. Their internet connectivity and IP addresses were traced to locations outside India, and the use of VPN services was also detected, indicating attempts to conceal identity and location.

Situation Now Under Control

Laxmi Singh stated that the situation in Noida has remained peaceful for the past two days. To maintain law and order, the police conducted flag marches across sensitive areas.

Industrial operations in the region have resumed smoothly, with workers returning to their jobs across one to three shifts in various industrial units. The restoration of normalcy reflects improved confidence among workers and effective coordination between administration and law enforcement agencies.

Wage Reforms Help Restore Confidence

The Police Commissioner also highlighted that recent decisions by the Uttar Pradesh government regarding wage increases have contributed to easing tensions among workers. The implementation of revised minimum wages and the formation of a wage board have been positively received.

These steps have helped address key concerns raised by workers, resulting in a sense of satisfaction and stability. Officials noted that improved communication of these decisions played a crucial role in restoring trust and encouraging workers to resume duties.

Appeal to Public to Avoid Rumours

Issuing a public appeal, Laxmi Singh urged workers and residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar to remain cautious and not fall prey to rumours or misinformation.

She emphasized that individuals should avoid reacting to unverified social media content and immediately report any suspicious or misleading information to the police. Maintaining peace and harmony in the district requires collective responsibility and cooperation from all sections of society.

The Police Commissioner reiterated that Gautam Buddh Nagar has traditionally been a peaceful district with strong industrial activity and stable public life. She called upon citizens to support the administration in preserving this environment and ensuring that such incidents do not disrupt normalcy in the future.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities confirmed that the investigation into the matter is still underway, with a focus on identifying all individuals and networks involved in spreading misinformation. Strict action is expected against those found responsible for attempting to disturb public order through coordinated digital campaigns.

The case highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital age and underscores the need for vigilance, responsible communication, and swift administrative response to maintain law and order.
