The Delhi Legislative Assembly has announced the launch of an AI-enabled chatbot named ‘Vidhan Sathi’, aimed at transforming legislative functioning through data-driven insights and technology integration. The system will be rolled out from the upcoming Budget Session, marking a significant step towards modernizing governance and enhancing the efficiency of lawmakers.
AI Tool to Simplify Legislative Work
Vidhan Sathi has been developed as a dedicated legislative research and assistance platform designed exclusively for Members of the Assembly. The tool will enable MLAs to access instant summaries, analyse Bills, Acts, and policy documents, and retrieve relevant legislative records in real time.
One of its key features includes the ability to upload screenshots of Bills or reports, allowing the system to generate contextual analysis and simplified explanations. This will help Members better understand complex legislative issues and participate more effectively in discussions.
The platform is accessible through a QR code placed on each Member’s desk, along with a direct digital link, eliminating the need for additional downloads or processes. Access is restricted to the 70 Members of the Assembly, ensuring a secure and institution-specific environment.
Data-Backed Decision Making and Future Integration
The AI system has been designed to draw from the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, past debates, committee reports, and legislative records, ensuring that all information provided is accurate and contextually relevant. It is available in both Hindi and English and includes voice-enabled features to support ease of use during proceedings.
The platform is intended to assist, not replace, the independent judgment of Members, serving as a support mechanism to strengthen evidence-based discussions. In its next phase, Vidhan Sathi will be integrated with the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), further enhancing the Assembly’s digital and paperless ecosystem.
This initiative reflects a broader shift towards technology-enabled governance, where real-time access to information can improve the quality, precision, and impact of legislative debates.
Budget Session and Institutional Developments
The Budget Session of the Eighth Delhi Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on March 23, with the agenda to be finalized by the Business Advisory Committee. The session is expected to include discussions on key reports such as those of the Committee of Privileges, the Public Accounts Committee, and matters related to CAG findings, along with opportunities for Members to raise public issues.
It was also announced that the full rendition of “Vande Mataram” will be played during Assembly proceedings from this session, reinforcing institutional spirit and collective purpose.
Tradition, Sustainability, and Celebrations
The Assembly continues to balance tradition with development, having become a fully solar-powered institution and expanding its capacity to around 800 kW. It has also successfully operated as a completely paperless Assembly over the past two sessions, marking a milestone in sustainable governance.
On the occasion of the Hindu New Year and Navratri, the Assembly premises have been illuminated in saffron hues, symbolizing renewal and cultural heritage. Greetings were extended to citizens with hopes for peace, prosperity, and collective progress in the coming year.
