In a significant enforcement action, the Greater Noida Authority launched a large-scale demolition drive in the Hindon floodplain area of Haibatpur on Wednesday. The operation was conducted jointly by teams from the Authority’s Project and Revenue departments, with support from Authority police personnel. The action followed reports that colonisers were attempting illegal plotting in the floodplain area to develop an unauthorised colony.

Officials said the land under Khasra numbers 280 and 287 in Haibatpur village, measuring approximately 6,000 square metres, falls within the Hindon floodplain. The land is part of the Authority’s notified area, where any form of construction without prior approval is strictly prohibited. Despite repeated warnings, illegal construction activity continued at the site.
The demolition was carried out by the Project Department’s Work Circle-3 team. Using bulldozers, the team razed the unauthorised structures in an operation that lasted nearly two hours. Work Circle-3 in-charge Rajesh Kumar Nim, manager Rohit Gupta and other officials were present at the site during the operation.

Greater Noida Authority Additional Chief Executive Officer Sumit Yadav said the National Green Tribunal has issued clear directions to prevent encroachments in the Hindon floodplain. In compliance with these orders, the Authority has been taking continuous action against illegal constructions in the area. He emphasised that any form of unauthorised development in floodplain zones poses serious environmental risks.
The ACEO warned that the Authority would continue to take strict action against constructions raised without permission or without approved building plans in notified areas. He said no leniency would be shown towards violators, and legal action would be initiated wherever required.
General Manager (Projects) AK Singh said the Authority had repeatedly attempted to stop the illegal construction at the site. However, the builders ignored the warnings and continued construction, leaving the Authority with no option but to proceed with demolition.

The Greater Noida Authority also appealed to the public to verify land records with the Revenue Department before purchasing any property in the city. Citizens were cautioned against investing their hard-earned money in unauthorised colonies, which lack legal status and basic infrastructure.
Officials stated that protecting floodplains is crucial for environmental balance and urban safety. Encroachments in such areas obstruct natural water flow and increase the risk of flooding. The Authority reiterated that keeping floodplain areas free from illegal construction remains a top priority.
