A grand programme at the Delhi Secretariat celebrated the Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, highlighting cultural diversity, unity, and national pride.

New Delhi: 20 February 2026

A grand celebration was organised at the Delhi Secretariat to commemorate the Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh, known as the Land of the Rising Sun, and Mizoram, known as the Land of Blue Mountains. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with all Cabinet Ministers of the Delhi Government, extended greetings to the people of both states and the entire nation.

On 20 February 1987, Mizoram became the 23rd state of India, and Arunachal Pradesh became the 24th, marking a significant milestone in India’s constitutional history. The occasion serves as a reminder of the country’s cultural and political diversity and the integration of its northeastern states into the national framework.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the event aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat’. She highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram symbolize India’s unity through cultural richness. The Northeastern states inspire the nation through their natural beauty, vibrant traditions, and patriotic spirit.

Mizoram’s lush greenery, scenic landscapes, and high literacy rate reflect its progressive development, while Arunachal Pradesh’s Buddhist monasteries, hill valleys, and tribal diversity attract national and international attention. These states demonstrate the harmonious coexistence of nature, culture, and community values, which strengthens India’s social fabric.

Minister for Art, Culture & Languages Kapil Mishra emphasised that Delhi, as the nation’s capital, serves as a hub for celebrating the foundation days of all states. Such celebrations provide an opportunity to recognise and honour India’s diverse cultural heritage. He conveyed his best wishes for the continued peace, prosperity, and development of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

During the programme, sixteen artists from the two states performed traditional folk dances. The folk fusion and Cheraw dance, with colourful attire and traditional music, immersed the audience in the cultural vibrancy of Northeast India. The performances showcased the artistic excellence and rich cultural expressions of both states.

Distinguished guests present at the event applauded the artists and encouraged the youth to take pride in their cultural heritage. The performances highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting traditional arts while fostering national integration.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta further emphasised that such events nurture respect, understanding, and harmony among India’s diverse population. They provide an ideal platform for citizens to learn about each other’s cultural heritage, fostering a sense of national pride and unity.

The event was attended by a distinguished audience comprising policymakers, cultural experts, and representatives from various fields. Their participation reflected the inclusive and multidisciplinary nature of the programme and underscored the importance of cultural exchange in building a cohesive society.

Through this celebration, Delhi once again demonstrated its commitment to recognising the contributions of all states and promoting the vision of a united, culturally vibrant India. The Statehood Day celebrations of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram offered an opportunity to appreciate the unique cultural identities of the northeastern region and reinforce the values of national unity, peace, and harmony.
