The PM Suryaghar scheme encourages households to adopt solar energy, providing eligible citizens up to 300 units of free electricity per month and direct subsidy benefits.

Gautam Buddh Nagar, 20 February 2026

The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Lucknow, under the ambitious PM Suryaghar scheme of the Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh, is promoting solar energy adoption across the state. Project Officer UPNEDA, Lavesh Kumar Sisodia, stated that the scheme aims to install solar panels on the rooftops of one crore homes, providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month to eligible households.

Through this scheme, citizens can not only save electricity but also generate surplus power and sell it for additional income. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a direct subsidy of up to ₹78,000 in their bank accounts for installing solar plants. The subsidy limits are ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, and ₹78,000 for 3 kW. Interested applicants can apply online at the official portal https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in
.

The application process is simple and transparent. Applicants register on the portal, fill the application form, and obtain approval from the concerned DISCOM. After approval, the solar panels are installed, and net meter and bank account details are uploaded to the portal. Upon completion, the subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account.

The scheme also provides collateral-free loans at approximately 7% interest for solar plants up to 3 kW, empowering citizens financially to adopt solar energy.

Eligibility criteria include Indian citizenship, a rooftop suitable for solar panel installation, a valid electricity connection, and no prior benefit under any other solar subsidy scheme. Required documents include Aadhaar card, latest electricity bill, bank passbook, mobile number, and email ID.

For detailed information, interested individuals can visit the office of the Project Officer, UPNEDA, Room No. 111, Vikas Bhawan, Surajpur, Greater Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar, on any working day.
