A significant expansion has occurred in the infrastructure of the Yamuna Irrigation and Water Resources Department at Okhla. Uttar Pradesh Water Power Minister Swatantra Dev Singh inaugurated the newly constructed “Chief Engineer – Yamuna” office building. This new administrative center will play a crucial role in better coordination of water management and irrigation projects in the region. On this occasion, the government’s commitment to departmental efficiency and modern resources was highlighted. The new building aims to accelerate work processes by bringing engineering and administrative functions under one roof.
Multi-Crore Projects Public Dedication and Financial Savings
During the inauguration ceremony, not only the administrative building but also 16 other critical projects completed by the Yamuna Project Organization were dedicated to the public. The total approved cost of these projects was ₹8803.114 lakh. Notably, the department successfully completed these tasks at an actual cost of ₹6831.310 lakh. Through effective implementation and efficient management, the department ensured a substantial saving of ₹1971.804 lakh for the public treasury. This financial discipline is being viewed as an example in the execution of public projects.
Focus on Flood Protection and Embankment Strengthening
The projects dedicated to the public primarily include critical infrastructure related to flood protection works, strengthening of embankments, restoration of canals, and barrage safety. Appreciating the quality of these works, the Water Power Minister stated that these projects will not only improve the irrigation system but also reduce the chances of flooding during the monsoon. These protective measures will help safeguard the population and agricultural land in the coastal areas of the Yamuna from future damages.
Commitment to Water Conservation with Quality and Timeliness
At the conclusion of the program, strict instructions were issued to officials for future tasks. The department has been directed to ensure that all upcoming schemes related to public interest and water resource conservation are completed with high quality and within the stipulated timelines. Water conservation is a primary need today, and the successful implementation of these projects is a major step in this direction. The dignified ceremony was attended by senior officials of the irrigation department, engineers, and regional public representatives, who discussed the importance of these technical structures in the region’s development.
