Gautam Buddh Nagar: A large-scale awareness campaign will be conducted across the district on April 25, 2026, to mark World Malaria Day, focusing on prevention and control of malaria through community participation and student engagement. The initiative aims to strengthen public awareness and encourage collective action against mosquito-borne diseases.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, this year’s global theme, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must,” underscores the urgency of eliminating malaria through sustained efforts. The campaign will be carried out with coordinated participation from the Health Department, Education Department, Panchayati Raj institutions, and urban development authorities including Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.
Students to Take Lead as ‘Malaria Warriors’
As part of the campaign, all government and private schools across the district will organize awareness sessions during morning assemblies. Students will be educated about malaria symptoms, transmission, and preventive measures. They will also take a pledge to act as “Malaria Warriors,” committing to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in their homes and surrounding areas.
This initiative places students at the forefront of community awareness, encouraging them to act as change-makers and spread essential health information within their families and neighborhoods.
Awareness Activities in Schools and Communities
Schools will organize a variety of activities to reinforce awareness, including street plays, rallies, poster-making, and rangoli competitions. These activities are designed to engage students creatively while delivering key messages about sanitation, hygiene, and the importance of preventing water stagnation.
Through rallies and public outreach programs, students will also interact with local residents, urging them to maintain cleanliness and ensure that stagnant water does not accumulate in their surroundings, which can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Role of Local Bodies and Development Authorities
Urban local bodies such as municipal councils, Nagar Panchayats, and development authorities in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region will conduct oath-taking ceremonies and awareness drives. These initiatives will focus on mobilizing citizens and reinforcing preventive practices at the community level.
Authorities will emphasize proper waste management, regular cleaning, and effective drainage systems to reduce mosquito breeding. Public participation will be encouraged to ensure sustained impact beyond the campaign period.
Health Department Outreach and Special Drives
The Health Department will organize seminars, rallies, and targeted awareness campaigns, especially in vulnerable and densely populated areas, including slum settlements. Special focus will be placed on educating people about early symptoms of malaria, such as fever, chills, and fatigue, and the importance of timely medical intervention.
Officials will also highlight preventive measures such as using mosquito nets, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating stagnant water sources in and around homes.
Focus on Community Participation and Prevention
The campaign aims to create a sense of shared responsibility among citizens, institutions, and authorities. By involving students, local bodies, and health workers, the initiative seeks to build a comprehensive and sustainable approach to malaria prevention.
Residents have been encouraged to actively participate in awareness activities and adopt preventive measures in their daily lives. The success of the campaign will depend on consistent efforts to maintain cleanliness, prevent waterlogging, and spread awareness at the grassroots level.
With coordinated action and increased public awareness, the district aims to make significant progress toward reducing malaria cases and supporting the broader goal of eliminating the disease.
