A wave of bomb threats has rattled Delhi for the third day in a row, forcing multiple schools and one college to evacuate students while bomb squads and police teams conducted extensive checks across campuses. Although the threats have so far turned out to be hoaxes, they have caused significant panic among parents, staff, and students, raising concerns over the safety of educational institutions in the capital.
Repeated Alerts Across Institutions
On Wednesday morning, at least five schools, including St. Thomas School in Dwarka, Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj, Mother’s International School in Hauz Khas, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodi Estate, received bomb threat emails. St. Thomas School, notably, received the same threat for the second consecutive day, intensifying the anxiety among parents and students.
The threats, received around 8 a.m., claimed that explosive substances had been planted on school premises. Following the alerts, teams from the Delhi Fire Service, local police, and bomb detection and disposal squads rushed to the sites to secure the campuses. Students who had arrived at the schools were promptly evacuated, and parents were informed to collect their children from designated gates.
Police confirmed that the emails received on Wednesday were similar to those sent over the past two days. On Tuesday, St. Thomas School and St. Stephen’s College received similar threats, leading to immediate evacuations and campus checks. Monday saw the Navy School in Chanakyapuri, CRPF School in Dwarka, and a school in Rohini receiving threat emails, all of which were later declared hoaxes.
Ongoing Investigation and Parental Concerns
A senior police officer stated that while all threats have been deemed false after thorough searches, the authorities are taking each alert seriously as part of their security protocol. “We received alerts early in the morning from schools regarding the emails, and our teams, along with the special cell and bomb detection squads, were immediately deployed. Nothing has been found so far, but all safety measures are being followed, and parents are being kept informed,” the officer added.
According to the police, around ten schools and one college in Delhi have received such threats in the last three days, but the identity of the sender remains unknown. The repetitive nature of these threats has created a climate of fear, leading parents to demand enhanced security measures across campuses. The panic was evident as parents rushed to collect their children, and many schools, including Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, sent official communications to parents notifying them about closures for the day due to safety checks.
In an email to parents, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya stated, “Due to a potential bomb threat received this morning, and as advised by the police, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya will remain closed today, 16th July 2025. A Bomb Disposal Squad is conducting a full sanitisation of the premises. We will keep you updated. For parents of students who travel on their own, please pick up your ward either from the junior school gate or the senior school ground gate. Those using the school bus will be returning by the same.”
Despite repeated hoax calls, the fear and disruption caused have made parents anxious about sending their children to school. Several schools are reportedly considering reviewing their email security protocols and campus safety systems while cooperating with the police investigation.
The authorities continue to urge citizens to remain calm while assuring them that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff amid these persistent threats.
