The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour was formally launched on December 16 at the iconic Ram Setu, also known as Adam’s Bridge, marking a powerful and symbolic beginning to the build-up for the sport’s global showcase. The location, revered culturally in India and geographically linking India and Sri Lanka, reflected the shared heritage and partnership of the two co-host nations as preparations gather momentum for the 10th edition of the tournament, scheduled from February 7 to March 8, 2026.

A symbolic launch connecting history, culture and the global game

The decision to launch the Trophy Tour over the Ram Setu carried deep cultural and symbolic resonance. The site represents an ancient link between India and Sri Lanka, making it a fitting backdrop for a tournament jointly hosted by the two neighbours. By choosing this location, the International Cricket Council sought to underline the unifying power of cricket and its ability to bridge cultures, histories, and geographies through a shared passion for the game.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will feature 20 teams competing across 29 days in eight premier venues, five in India and three in Sri Lanka. The tournament promises high-intensity cricket in the shortest and most explosive format of the game, building on the rapid global growth of T20 cricket over the past decade. With the competition spanning major cricketing centres across South Asia, the event is expected to draw massive fan engagement both on the ground and through digital platforms worldwide.

The Trophy Tour itself has been designed as an expansive, fan-centric initiative. Over the coming weeks, the iconic silverware will travel across Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Oman, Nepal, Bahrain, and Mongolia. This wide itinerary reflects the ICC’s intent to take the World Cup beyond traditional cricket strongholds and connect with emerging and associate nations where interest in the format continues to grow rapidly.

At each stop, fans will have the opportunity to see the trophy up close, take part in interactive experiences, and engage with activities aimed at building excitement ahead of the tournament. The tour is expected to reach millions, reinforcing the sense that the road to the World Cup is as much about community and shared anticipation as it is about elite competition.

In a distinctive initiative aimed at inspiring the next generation, the trophy will also visit schools and colleges associated with players who are set to participate in the tournament. This outreach effort is intended to give young fans a tangible connection to the global stage, offering a rare opportunity to engage directly with the symbol of cricket’s highest achievement in the T20 format. By linking grassroots institutions with the World Cup narrative, the ICC hopes to deepen emotional investment in the game among future players and supporters.

The tour will further align with the international cricket calendar, with the trophy making appearances at major T20 leagues and select bilateral series. This strategy ensures sustained visibility across competitive cricket environments and reinforces the countdown to the World Cup across different formats and regions, keeping the tournament firmly in the global sporting conversation.

Leadership vision and preparations for a landmark T20 World Cup

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the launch at Ram Setu as an inspiring way to set the tone for the tournament. He emphasised that the Trophy Tour represents more than the physical movement of silverware, calling it a unifying journey that brings together continents, cultures, and cricketing communities. According to Shah, each stop on the tour is designed to ignite passion among fans and strengthen the shared spirit that defines cricket as a global sport.

Shah highlighted that as the ICC prepares for the 10th edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup, the objective is to ensure supporters everywhere feel connected to the journey toward India and Sri Lanka. He noted that the tour would steadily heighten anticipation, inviting fans around the world to become part of what is expected to be a memorable edition of the tournament.

From the Indian perspective, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia underlined the emotional intensity that the T20 World Cup brings and said that launching the Trophy Tour at Ram Setu perfectly captured the scale and significance of the journey ahead. He pointed out that India has successfully hosted two 50-over World Cups in recent years and expressed confidence in delivering another world-class event in the T20 format.

Saikia noted that the 2026 edition would showcase the extraordinary growth and depth of T20 cricket in India, both in terms of talent and infrastructure. As co-host, the BCCI has committed to providing outstanding facilities for players and a compelling tournament experience for fans. He described the Trophy Tour as the beginning of a campaign that will gather momentum as it travels across the cricketing world, building excitement well before the first ball is bowled.

Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva echoed similar sentiments, welcoming the launch of the Trophy Tour with enthusiasm. He said the moment signalled the start of an exciting journey as Sri Lanka prepares to host fans from across the globe. Silva emphasised Sri Lanka Cricket’s commitment to delivering an exceptional tournament experience that reflects the passion of its supporters, the vibrancy of its culture, and the unique atmosphere of its venues.

Silva added that Sri Lanka looks forward to creating memories that will endure long after the tournament concludes, reinforcing the island nation’s reputation as a warm and vibrant host for international cricket. The collaboration between India and Sri Lanka is being seen as a model of regional partnership, combining scale, tradition, and hospitality to deliver a global sporting spectacle.

The venues selected for the tournament reflect this ambition. In India, matches will be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Sri Lanka will host games at the R Premadasa Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo, as well as the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Together, these venues represent a blend of historic grounds and modern arenas, each capable of delivering high-quality cricket and electric atmospheres.

As the Trophy Tour moves across countries and communities, it serves as a reminder of cricket’s ability to unite diverse cultures under a shared passion. The launch at Ram Setu set a tone of connection and continuity, linking ancient history with modern sport and regional partnership with global celebration. With the countdown to February 2026 now firmly underway, the journey of the trophy mirrors the growing anticipation for a tournament that aims to capture the imagination of fans around the world.
