Amid ongoing negotiations in Doha aimed at halting the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Qatar remains cautiously optimistic, stated Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the weekly media briefing on Tuesday.
Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the diligent efforts of technical teams engaged in the negotiations, emphasizing the sensitivity of the situation and refraining from commenting further to avoid disrupting progress. While acknowledging the absence of an imminent truce agreement, he expressed hope for continued dialogue to build upon achieved milestones.
During the weekly presser, Dr. Al Ansari emphasized the complexity of the negotiation process, noting the necessity for exchanging proposals and resolving contentious issues. Despite the indirect nature of the talks between conflicting parties, he conveyed a sense of hope for their resumption and potential progress.
Further, in a stark warning, Dr. Al Ansari underscored the catastrophic consequences of any potential attack on the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah. Highlighting the city’s vulnerable population already facing shortages in essential supplies, he condemned the possibility of further devastation, urging the international community to avert such a crisis.
Acknowledging Qatar’s pivotal role in facilitating aid delivery to Gaza, Dr. Al Ansari hailed the initiative to establish a sea route for aid transport, emphasizing the country’s commitment to addressing the escalating humanitarian needs. While stressing the urgency of aid delivery through multiple channels, he decried the exploitation of humanitarian assistance for political leverage, particularly as the region faces the specter of famine.
Regarding attacks on civilian and medical facilities, Dr. Al Ansari also reiterated Qatar’s steadfast stance in condemning such actions and holding the Israeli side accountable for ensuring the safety of civilians and medical personnel. He deplored the loss of journalists’ lives and called upon the international community to unequivocally denounce violations of international humanitarian law.
