During his address at the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized what he called the “politics of appeasement.” He directly linked this political approach to the history of India’s partition and the ongoing debate surrounding the Waqf Act. Narendra Modi emphasized that appeasement has long hurt India’s progress and must be questioned.
Narendra Modi claimed that the demand for partition did not come from ordinary Muslim families, but from a few fundamentalists supported by Congress leaders. He stated, “It was not the common Muslim who demanded separation, but those influenced by political opportunism.” Drawing a historical comparison, Narendra Modi alleged that similar divisive strategies are still at play today through appeasement politics.
Referring to the controversial Waqf Amendment Act 2025, Narendra Modi described it as a reform that aims to fix deep-rooted problems in the management of waqf properties. The law, according to him, intends to bring transparency and accountability to the system while protecting the rights of marginalized groups, including Pasmanda Muslims, women, and children.
Narendra Modi alleged that fundamentalist groups and land mafias have long misused waqf lands. He said the amendment would break their control and ensure these properties benefit those who truly need them. The reform, he added, is aligned with the Constitution and focused on promoting fairness and justice across communities.
