Noida, December 23, 2025:
As part of its sustained efforts to improve urban cleanliness and secure a top ranking in the national Swachh Survekshan, the Noida Authority conducted an on-ground inspection of commercial establishments in Sector-3 on Tuesday and took strict action against violations of solid waste management and single-use plastic norms.
The inspection drive was carried out under the leadership of Gaurav Bansal, Project Engineer (Public Health), as part of the Noida Authority’s routine monitoring to ensure compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules and the complete ban on single-use plastic within the city. The Authority has been participating in Swachh Survekshan every year and has intensified enforcement measures to make Noida cleaner and more environmentally sustainable.
During the inspection, the team visited the e-commerce store and cloud kitchen operated by Zepto Private Limited, located at D-12, Sector-3. The establishment was identified as a bulk waste generator, and several serious shortcomings were found during the inspection, indicating non-compliance with prescribed waste management norms.
Officials noted that the establishment was not following mandatory waste segregation and storage practices as required under the Solid Waste Management Rules. The waste generated at the premises was not being disposed of in a scientific and authorised manner. It was further observed that the waste was being handed over to unauthorised scrap dealers, who were reportedly dumping the waste at various locations across the city, contributing to littering and environmental degradation.
Another major violation highlighted during the inspection was the absence of any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an authorised waste collection or disposal agency for the processing of waste generated at the facility. As per the rules applicable to bulk waste generators, entering into an agreement with an authorised agency is mandatory to ensure proper processing and disposal of waste.
In addition to these lapses, the inspection team found that the establishment was using single-use plastic, which is completely banned across the Noida region. During the enforcement action, approximately 20 kilograms of single-use plastic, packed in six cartons, were seized from the premises.
Considering the gravity of the violations and the failure to comply with bulk waste generator norms, the Noida Authority imposed an economic penalty of ₹5,00,000 on Zepto Private Limited’s e-commerce store and cloud kitchen. The management was also issued strict instructions to ensure complete compliance with all waste management rules. Officials warned that failure to adhere to the norms in the future would invite further penal action as per the law.
Following the action against Zepto, the inspection team also carried out checks at other establishments in Sector-3. From the PayTM office located at D-7, approximately 5 kilograms of plastic was seized. Similarly, 5 kilograms of plastic was confiscated from WOW Food, located at D-6 in the same sector. Both establishments were issued warnings and informed that the use of single-use plastic in the Noida area attracts financial penalties under existing regulations.
The Noida Authority reiterated that such inspections will continue on a regular basis to ensure strict enforcement of environmental norms. The Authority emphasised that compliance with solid waste management rules and the ban on single-use plastic is mandatory for all commercial establishments, especially bulk waste generators, and violations will not be tolerated.
Several officials and representatives were present during the inspection process, including Prafull Kumar, Operations Head at AG Enviro, and Vikas Kumar, Operations Manager at AG Enviro. Abhigyanam, IEC Expert from Guided Fortune Samiti, and Suraj Singh, Division Incharge at Guided Fortune Samiti, were also part of the inspection team. Members of the NGO Guided Fortune Samiti actively participated in the enforcement drive, supporting the Authority’s efforts to promote environmental responsibility and public awareness.
The Noida Authority once again appealed to all commercial establishments, residents, and stakeholders to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness, follow waste segregation norms, and strictly avoid the use of single-use plastic, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to achieve higher rankings in Swachh Survekshan and ensure a cleaner city for all.
