Noida, April 25, 2026:
In a significant step towards improving urban infrastructure and ensuring safer connectivity, the Noida Authority has approved a project worth ₹34.18 crore for the repair and strengthening of a key four-lane road located along the Yamuna marginal embankment near the Okhla Barrage.
The road, situated downstream of the Okhla Barrage on the left bank of the Yamuna River, plays a crucial role in connecting several villages and residential sectors in Noida. The embankment was originally constructed to protect nearby areas—including Asgarpur, Raipur, Nagla Nagli, Nagla Bajidpur, and adjoining residential sectors—from flooding caused by the Yamuna River. The four-lane road running along this embankment was built in 2014 by the irrigation department using funds provided by the Noida Authority.
Over the years, the road has witnessed significant wear and tear due to heavy vehicular movement and adverse weather conditions, particularly excessive rainfall. Officials have reported the formation of potholes on the main carriageway, along with structural damage to side lanes. Leakage from gabion structures and blockages in drainage pipelines have further worsened the condition, leading to waterlogging and deterioration of road quality.
The poor condition of the road has been causing inconvenience to daily commuters, including residents of nearby villages and sectors. Commuters have been facing delays, safety risks, and discomfort while traveling on this stretch. Authorities have also expressed concern over the increased likelihood of accidents due to damaged road surfaces and inadequate drainage systems.
To address these challenges, the approved project includes comprehensive repair and strengthening measures. These will involve the restoration of damaged sections of the road, strengthening of crash barriers to enhance safety, repair and improvement of RCC drainage systems, and gabion grouting to stabilize the embankment structures. Additionally, efforts will be made to improve water drainage mechanisms to prevent future damage caused by water accumulation.
The project also includes resurfacing of the entire road stretch with bituminous concrete (BC) and repainting of road markings to ensure better driving conditions and visibility. These measures are expected to significantly enhance the riding quality and durability of the road.
Officials stated that the upgraded road will provide a high-quality alternative route for residents and commuters in the region. It will improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance overall safety. The improved infrastructure is also expected to contribute to fuel savings and reduced vehicle wear and tear, benefiting regular users of the road.
The repair work is scheduled to commence in May 2026 and will be executed by the irrigation department through an authorized agency. Authorities have emphasized that the project will be carried out in a time-bound manner while ensuring minimal disruption to traffic movement during the construction phase.
Once completed, the project is expected to bring significant relief to residents of nearby areas and strengthen connectivity between key locations in Noida. It will also enhance the effectiveness of the embankment in providing flood protection, thereby serving both infrastructure and safety purposes.
The initiative reflects the Noida Authority’s continued focus on maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure to meet the growing demands of urbanization. By addressing long-standing issues related to road conditions and drainage, the authority aims to improve the overall quality of life for residents and ensure safer, more efficient transportation networks.
Further updates regarding the progress of the project are expected once the repair work begins in May, with officials closely monitoring the execution to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
