Authorities intensify enforcement to ensure labour law compliance, canceling licenses and directing direct wage payments to workers amid ongoing efforts to maintain industrial peace.
The labour department in Gautam Buddh Nagar has stepped up its crackdown on violations of labour laws, taking strict action against defaulting contractors to safeguard workers’ rights and maintain industrial harmony. The move comes as part of a continuous enforcement drive aimed at ensuring compliance across industrial units in the district.
According to Additional Labour Commissioner Rakesh Dwivedi, multiple inspections conducted by the department revealed irregularities in adherence to labour regulations by several contractors operating in different establishments. Following these findings, show-cause notices were issued to the concerned contractors seeking explanations for the violations.
Licenses Cancelled, Blacklisting Initiated
Officials stated that contractors who failed to respond to the notices faced immediate action. A total of 14 contractors had their licenses cancelled in the latest phase of enforcement. With this, the cumulative number of contractors whose licenses have been revoked has reached 49.
In addition to license cancellations, a formal recommendation has been sent to the Labour Department Uttar Pradesh for blacklisting these contractors. Authorities believe that such measures are necessary to deter non-compliance and ensure accountability within the industrial ecosystem.
Fresh Notices Issued to Additional Contractors
The enforcement drive is ongoing, with six more contractors recently issued show-cause notices for alleged violations of labour laws. Officials emphasized that strict scrutiny will continue, and any entity found flouting regulations will face similar consequences.
The department has reiterated that compliance with labour laws is not optional and that all contractors and employers must adhere to statutory obligations, including timely wage payments and provision of worker benefits.
Direct Payment to Workers Ensured
In a significant step to protect workers’ interests, authorities have directed principal employers and factory managements to ensure direct payment of wages to contract workers. This measure is aimed at preventing delays or discrepancies in payments often caused by intermediaries.
Employers have been instructed to transfer wages directly into workers’ bank accounts and adjust the payments against the contractors’ bills. Officials clarified that ensuring wage payment is a legal responsibility of the principal employer, regardless of the involvement of contractors.
Focus on Industrial Peace and Worker Welfare
The administration has underlined that maintaining industrial peace and safeguarding workers’ rights remain top priorities. Continuous inspections and enforcement actions are being carried out to prevent exploitation and ensure a fair working environment.
Authorities noted that any illegal practices or negligence affecting workers’ welfare will not be tolerated. The department plans to sustain its strict approach to ensure long-term compliance and stability in the region’s industrial sector.
Helpline for Complaints
To facilitate grievance redressal, workers and industrial stakeholders have been encouraged to report any violations or concerns directly to the labour department. Complaints can be registered via telephone or email, ensuring accessibility and prompt action.
The ongoing crackdown highlights the administration’s commitment to enforcing labour laws and protecting workers in one of Uttar Pradesh’s key industrial hubs. Officials believe that consistent enforcement, combined with awareness and accountability, will contribute to a more transparent and worker-friendly industrial environment.
