India AI Impact Summit 2026 Day 5 unfolded as one of the most consequential phases of the six-day global gathering at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Recognised as the first major global Artificial Intelligence summit hosted in the Global South, the event has positioned India at the centre of emerging debates on technology governance and digital sovereignty. The fifth day combined high-level multilateral deliberations with strategic alliance-building and domestic political reactions, underscoring how artificial intelligence has become deeply intertwined with geopolitics and internal political discourse.

Global Governance And Pax Silica Strategic Realignment

The defining development of India AI Impact Summit 2026 Day 5 was India’s formal entry into the US-led Pax Silica alliance. Launched in December 2025, Pax Silica seeks to secure semiconductor supply chains, critical mineral access and advanced AI infrastructure among trusted partner nations. By joining the initiative, India signalled its commitment to building resilient technology ecosystems and reducing vulnerabilities linked to concentrated supply networks.

The alliance framework spans the entire technology value chain, from energy inputs and rare earth minerals such as lithium and cobalt to semiconductor fabrication and AI model development. This capability-based coalition model reflects a broader shift in global policymaking, where countries increasingly collaborate to protect strategic industries and safeguard economic security. India’s participation strengthens bilateral ties with the United States while expanding multilateral coordination in critical technology sectors.

The GPAI Council Meeting remained the institutional highlight of the day. Member nations of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence reviewed progress on responsible AI deployment, inclusive digital growth and regulatory safeguards. The Leaders’ Declaration, scheduled for adoption, is expected to articulate shared principles for ethical AI governance, transparency in model development and cross-border data cooperation.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai delivered a keynote address emphasising that the US-India partnership plays a critical role in ensuring AI benefits reach everyone. Representing Google and its parent Alphabet Inc., he described the present moment as one of transformative technological acceleration while cautioning that positive outcomes depend on collaborative governance. He highlighted how innovations developed in India are shaping global digital ecosystems, reinforcing India’s rising technological influence.

Technological showcases also captured attention. An AI-powered electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft developed in collaboration with IIT Madras demonstrated how artificial intelligence is extending into urban mobility and transport innovation. The aircraft’s ability to operate without a conventional runway reflects the integration of AI into next-generation infrastructure solutions.

Diplomacy, Political Debate And Summit Optics

Beyond governance frameworks, India AI Impact Summit 2026 Day 5 reflected intense diplomatic engagement. French President Emmanuel Macron concluded his visit by sharing public appreciation for India’s hospitality and strategic cooperation. His engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforced bilateral ties spanning technology, trade and cultural exchange.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin also met Modi on the summit sidelines, placing artificial intelligence and innovation-led growth at the centre of India-Switzerland collaboration. Discussions highlighted the need to balance innovation with safeguards to ensure equitable technological transitions.

India’s expanding partnership with the United Arab Emirates gained further momentum as Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan concluded his visit. Advanced technology cooperation, investment flows and AI research formed key pillars of the evolving strategic partnership.

Amid the diplomatic engagements, political tensions surfaced domestically. Congress youth workers staged protests at the summit venue opposing India’s decision to join Pax Silica and deepen alignment with the United States. Demonstrators reportedly removed their shirts in symbolic protest and were detained by authorities. The protest reflected broader debates within Indian politics about strategic autonomy, global alliances and economic sovereignty in the technology domain.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor offered a more nuanced view, describing the summit’s early days as successful while acknowledging that large international events may face operational challenges. His remarks contrasted with sharper criticism from other party leaders, illustrating internal divergence on how to assess the summit’s political and diplomatic significance.

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak added a lighter note by joking about Delhi’s traffic congestion during his appearance, reflecting the informal diplomatic exchanges that often accompany formal policy discussions.

As India AI Impact Summit 2026 Day 5 progressed toward the adoption of the Leaders’ Declaration, the event encapsulated the convergence of technology governance, geopolitical alignment and domestic political contestation. The summit’s fifth day demonstrated that artificial intelligence policy is no longer confined to technical frameworks but now shapes international alliances, economic strategy and national political debates.
