Greater Noida, April 26, 2026
The action was taken by the health department following complaints from residents regarding improper disposal of waste. During an on-site inspection, officials found that the basement area had effectively been turned into a dumping zone, with large quantities of mixed waste and construction debris lying unattended.
Inspection Reveals Major Lapses
According to officials, the basement was filled with both wet and dry waste, along with debris generated from construction activities. Stagnant, contaminated water was also found accumulated in the area, causing foul odor and raising serious hygiene concerns for residents.
The inspection confirmed that the society management had failed to ensure proper waste segregation and disposal, leading to an unhealthy environment within the premises.
Violation of Waste Management Rules
Authorities stated that the society violated provisions under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. As a bulk waste generator, the housing society is required to manage and process its waste independently instead of dumping it in common areas.
Officials emphasized that such negligence not only breaches regulations but also poses risks to public health and sanitation, especially in a large residential complex housing over 5,000 families.
Resident Complaints Trigger Action
Warning to Other Housing Societies
Officials from the Greater Noida Authority reiterated that strict action will continue against societies and institutions failing to comply with waste management norms. They also noted that this is not the first time action has been taken against the society, indicating repeated lapses.
Authorities have urged all group housing societies categorized as bulk waste generators to strictly follow waste segregation and disposal guidelines. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted regularly to educate stakeholders about compliance requirements.
Appeal for Responsible Waste Management
An official statement emphasized that maintaining cleanliness and proper waste management is a shared responsibility. Housing societies have been encouraged to actively participate in keeping the city clean by adopting proper waste processing systems.
The authority warned that continued violations could invite stricter penalties and further legal action in the future.
