Gautam Buddha Nagar, December 30, 2025:
A district-level review meeting of stray cattle shelter homes was conducted under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Medha Rupam at the Collectorate office. The meeting, convened by the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, assessed the arrangements and management of shelter homes run by the Animal Husbandry Department. Special directives were issued to ensure the protection, feeding, and overall welfare of stray cattle in view of the approaching cold wave.

The District Magistrate instructed concerned officials to implement robust measures in all shelter homes to protect cattle from low temperatures. He emphasized that arrangements for bonfires, adequate fodder, clean drinking water, animal health services, and CCTV surveillance must be maintained without any lapse. Officials were directed to conduct regular inspections and ensure continuous monitoring of the facilities, with immediate corrective action in case of deficiencies.

Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Arun Kumar informed that all temporary and permanent shelters, along with registered gaushalas in the district, are currently housing stray cattle safely. He confirmed that essential provisions such as hay, green fodder, and clean water are being maintained. Vaccination drives have also been carried out to protect the cattle against diseases such as Lumpy Skin Disease and Foot-and-Mouth Disease. Regular monitoring of cattle in all shelter homes is ongoing to ensure their safety and health.

During the meeting, officials apprised the District Magistrate of challenges faced at various shelter homes. The discussion also focused on grazing land availability and fodder production. It was noted that while some identified grazing areas in different development blocks of the district are being used for fodder production, certain areas are affected by waterlogging and tree plantations, limiting fodder availability. The District Magistrate provided guidance on necessary corrective actions to address these issues.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Collector Vivek Bhadoria, District School Inspector Dr. Rajesh Kumar, District Social Welfare Officer Satish Kumar, Executive Officer Dadri Shalini Gupta, Development Block Officer Dadri Neha, and other concerned officials.
The administration emphasized that proactive measures and continuous monitoring are essential to safeguard the well-being of stray cattle, particularly during extreme weather conditions, ensuring both their protection and proper care.
