Gautam Buddh Nagar, December 17, 2025:
In view of the ongoing cold wave, District Magistrate Medha Rupam conducted a surprise night inspection of night shelters in Greater Noida to ensure that homeless and vulnerable individuals are provided with adequate facilities. The inspection covered community centers at Sector Delta-2, Greater Noida, and the Pari Chowk shelter under Work Circle-4.
During the visit, the DM interacted with shelter residents to assess the facilities provided and instructed the concerned officials to guarantee essential amenities for every occupant. These include clean bedding, blankets, safe drinking water, sanitation, proper lighting, and security. She emphasized that no individual should be forced to sleep outdoors during the cold wave. Officials were directed to provide cots or charpoys with mattresses, maintain cleanliness of sheets and blankets, and ensure the availability of drinking water and functional toilets at all times.
The DM also ordered that information about night shelters be disseminated widely so that individuals sleeping in open areas can be identified and safely transported to shelters. In addition, she inspected arrangements for bonfires near the shelters and instructed that adequate fuel be maintained to keep fires burning regularly for warmth.
Regular monitoring of shelters and their surroundings was mandated to ensure that residents receive safe, hygienic, and dignified accommodation throughout the winter season. The inspection aimed to prevent any inconvenience and safeguard the health and well-being of vulnerable individuals during the harsh cold.
The night inspection was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sadar Ashutosh Gupta, Tehsildar Sadar Prateek Chauhan, Naib Tehsildar Sadar Jyotsna, officials from the Authority, and representatives from relevant departments.
This proactive initiative by the district administration reflects its commitment to protecting the homeless population during extreme weather conditions and ensuring that all night shelters function efficiently with necessary facilities.
