New Delhi: The Fourth Session (Winter Session) of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi will now commence at 11.00 a.m. on January 6, 7 and 8, 2026. The revised timing marks a change from the earlier schedule under which the sittings were to begin at 2.00 p.m. on these dates.
According to the official information issued for all concerned, the decision to advance the commencement time of the Assembly sittings has been taken to facilitate the smooth conduct of legislative business during the Winter Session. The change in schedule applies uniformly to all three days of the session and will be effective from the first day of proceedings.
The Fourth Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly is expected to take up a range of important legislative and policy matters concerning the governance of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Winter Sessions traditionally provide a crucial platform for discussion on administrative performance, financial matters, development initiatives and issues of public importance. With the revised timing, members will have extended working hours during the day, allowing for more comprehensive deliberations on listed business.
Officials indicated that all Members of the Legislative Assembly, departments, and other stakeholders connected with Assembly proceedings have been informed of the change to ensure necessary logistical and administrative arrangements. The revised schedule is aimed at avoiding any inconvenience and ensuring timely participation of members in the proceedings.
The Eighth Legislative Assembly of Delhi has been actively engaged in legislative work, with previous sessions witnessing debates on governance reforms, public welfare schemes, infrastructure development, environmental concerns and administrative accountability. The Winter Session is expected to continue this trend, providing an opportunity for the government and the opposition to place their views on record and raise issues affecting residents of the national capital.
Assembly officials are in the process of finalising the detailed list of business to be taken up during the three-day session. This may include discussions on government policies, calling attention motions, questions to ministers, and other legislative matters as per the Assembly’s rules of procedure. Members have been advised to take note of the revised commencement time while planning their participation in the session.
The change in timing reflects an administrative decision intended to optimise the functioning of the House. Similar adjustments have been made in the past depending on the volume of business and practical considerations related to Assembly operations. By starting proceedings earlier in the day, the Assembly Secretariat aims to ensure better time management and smoother conduct of debates.
With the Winter Session set to begin on January 6 at 11.00 a.m., preparations are underway to ensure that all necessary arrangements, including security, seating, documentation and technical support, are in place. The Assembly Secretariat has reiterated that the revised timing should be strictly adhered to by all concerned to avoid disruptions in the proceedings.
The Fourth Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly is thus scheduled to be held on January 6, 7 and 8, 2026, with sittings beginning at 11.00 a.m. on each day, replacing the earlier plan of commencing proceedings at 2.00 p.m. The announcement serves as a formal intimation to all stakeholders ahead of the session.
