New Delhi, December 19, 2025:
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has intensified ground-level action against air pollution, targeting violators and implementing strict measures across the city. In the past 24 hours alone, authorities have issued fines to 11,776 vehicles found contributing to pollution or violating regulations, as part of a coordinated enforcement drive.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that the Delhi government is working on multiple fronts to tackle pollution, including vehicle checks, dust control, waste management, and strict compliance with environmental regulations. He noted that these coordinated efforts have led to a slight improvement in the Air Quality Index this winter compared to previous years.
Sirsa emphasised that the government is not limiting itself to short-term measures but is focusing on year-round, scientifically designed policies and sustainable reforms to ensure long-term improvement in Delhi’s air quality.
On the city cleaning and dust control front, municipal agencies removed over 12,164.88 metric tonnes of waste, mechanically cleaned 2,068.81 kilometres of roads, and carried out water sprinkling on 1,830 kilometres of streets. Anti-smog guns were deployed across 5,528 kilometres to control dust, with 160 guns specifically stationed at construction sites to curb dust emissions continuously.
Significant progress was also achieved in waste management. In the last 24 hours, more than 30,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste were scientifically disposed of. Citizen complaints were addressed promptly, with 57 grievances resolved through the 311 helpline, Green Delhi app, SAMIR portal, and social media platforms.
To ensure compliance with regulations, 542 trucks operating on unauthorised routes were stopped and sent back. Additionally, traffic was eased at 34 major congestion points across the city.
Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, Manjinder Singh Sirsa appealed to citizens, institutions, and vehicle owners to fully adhere to pollution control rules. He said, “The fight against pollution is not solely the government’s responsibility. All departments are working round the clock, but the cooperation of Delhi residents is equally crucial to ensure clean air for the city.”
These measures reflect Delhi government’s continued commitment to integrated, multi-level strategies combining enforcement, scientific planning, and public participation to combat air pollution effectively and ensure a healthier environment for all residents.
