Noida, December 26, 2025:
In a significant crackdown on mobile phone snatching and theft, the Sector-58 Police of Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate have arrested four members of an organised gang involved in a series of snatching and theft incidents across Delhi-NCR. The police have recovered 22 stolen mobile phones and two stolen motorcycles used in the commission of the crimes.

According to the police, the arrests were made on December 26 following a targeted operation based on manual intelligence inputs and confidential information. The accused were apprehended near D-Park in Sector-62, Noida. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shamim, son of Niyaz Mohammad; Sajid, son of Fakhruddin; Sikandar alias Mukhiya, son of Mahmood; and Inam, son of Naushad Ali.

Police officials said the gang operated in a systematic and organised manner, primarily targeting commuters and pedestrians in busy areas. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they worked as a group and were active across Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi. The gang would first steal motorcycles, which were then used to carry out mobile phone snatching and thefts in different localities to avoid detection.

The investigation revealed that Sikandar alias Mukhiya and Inam played a key role in dismantling the stolen mobile phones. After committing snatching and thefts, they would remove spare parts from the phones and sell them in Karol Bagh, Delhi. The proceeds from these illegal sales were then distributed among all gang members.

Police said the recovered mobile phones were snatched from various locations in Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi over the past several months. During questioning, the accused also admitted to frequently changing the location of the stolen motorcycles to evade law enforcement agencies.

Details of the recovered motorcycles show that one motorcycle bearing registration number DL9SK7243 was stolen from Uttam Nagar, Delhi, in August 2025. The second motorcycle, bearing registration number DL1SU4800, was stolen earlier this month from Ambedkar Nagar in South Delhi. Both motorcycles were actively used by the gang to commit multiple snatching incidents, police added.

The arrested accused belong to different areas of Delhi and Ghaziabad. Shamim, aged around 32 years, is a resident of Moonga Nagar, Gokalpuri, Delhi, and has studied up to Class 10. Sajid, aged about 29 years, resides in New Vikas Nagar, Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad, and has completed education up to Class 10. Sikandar alias Mukhiya, around 25 years old, is a resident of Alvi Nagar, Loni, Ghaziabad, and is illiterate. Inam, aged approximately 23 years, resides in New Mustafabad, Gokalpuri, Delhi, and has studied up to Class 9.

Police records indicate that the gang members are involved in multiple criminal cases. A case under sections 317(2) and 317(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at Sector-58 police station, Gautam Buddh Nagar, in connection with the present recovery. In addition, previous cases registered against the accused include FIR No. 3817/2023 under sections 411 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Anand Vihar, Delhi; FIR No. 023906/25 dated August 31, 2025, at Uttam Nagar police station, Delhi; and FIR No. 033362/25 dated December 6, 2025, at Ambedkar Nagar police station in South Delhi.

The police stated that further investigation is underway to identify additional cases linked to the gang and to trace buyers involved in the illegal resale of stolen mobile phone parts. Officials said the operation reflects the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate’s sustained efforts to curb street crime and ensure public safety in the region.

Police have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report incidents of snatching or suspicious activities to help law enforcement take swift action.
