Lucknow, 08 Sept : Dinesh Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the state, since he was the only contender to register a candidacy for the September 15 by-election. The by-election was called after the death of sitting MP Hardwar Dubey, who was also a BJP member. The seat is valid until November 2026. With the exception of Sharma’s, no other nominations were filed on the last day today. On Wednesday, the papers were scrutinized. The formal declaration will be made on Friday, said Ajit Sharma, Assistant Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha election.

Sharma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other top party leaders for the chance to serve in the Upper House of Parliament.
As a devoted party worker, I will work for the BJP. I will also make sure that Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister for the third time, added Sharma, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
