Muzaffarnagar, 08 Sept : Petty disagreements, grievances, and other concerns plaguing inmates in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar prison will now be settled by prisoner groups. Sitaram Sharma, superintendent of Muzaffarnagar Jail, stated, We have formed six prisoner committees. These committees will manage inmates’ activities such as health, education, entertainment, physical fitness, discipline, and legal guidance or counselling.
Weekly Chaupals held for inmates
He further stated that weekly Chaupals are conducted on the jail campus, overseen by jail staff, where convicts may share their problems and seek assistance. One of the six committees has been entrusted to the development of skills and education of the convicts, even illiterate ones, with the assistance of Muzaffarnagar’s education department.
Another committee to focus on cleaning and hygiene
They are creating profiles and lists of convicts in order to identify individuals who would benefit from skill development programs aimed at preparing inmates for reintegration into normal society. Another committee has been formed to oversee cleaning and hygiene within the jail grounds in order to provide a better environment for all convicts. Members of the committee will also strive to familiarize arriving convicts with jail regulations and discipline in order to assist them undergo counseling more effectively.
Legal Aid Committee formed
Inmates with legal expertise have been appointed to the Legal Aid Committee, whose mission is to aid fellow inmates with legal issues such as court appearances, fines, bail, sureties, and general legal information. The committees also hope to improve the environment in the facility and reduce inmate fights.
