New Delhi | March 16, 2026 — The Delhi Government has announced a major initiative to strengthen interstate bus connectivity with the deployment of 50 environment-friendly AC 12-meter buses on 17 interstate routes operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the buses will operate based on benchmark rates prescribed by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU), ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
Expansion of Interstate Bus Connectivity
As part of the ongoing effort to expand interstate transport services, DTC has already started operating electric buses on several important routes connecting Delhi with neighbouring regions. These include routes between Delhi and Baraut (Uttar Pradesh), Sonipat (Haryana), Dharuhera (Haryana), and Panipat (Haryana).
Officials said these services have significantly improved daily connectivity for commuters travelling between Delhi and nearby cities.
Further expansion is planned through additional interstate routes such as Nanaksar Delhi–Ghaziabad Bus Terminal, Delhi–Rewari, Delhi–Karnal, Delhi–Rohtak, Delhi–Alwar, and Delhi–Jewar, which are expected to enhance accessibility for both regular commuters and regional travellers.
Bus Services Planned to Religious Destinations
The transport minister also stated that the Delhi Government is working to promote religious tourism by improving bus connectivity to major pilgrimage destinations.
Under this plan, new bus services are proposed from Delhi to important religious locations including Katra (Vaishno Devi), Khatu Shyam, and Ayodhya, enabling devotees to travel more conveniently and safely.
Delhi–Bihar Bus Connectivity Under Consideration
Dr. Singh further informed that the government is also exploring the feasibility of launching interstate bus services between Delhi and Bihar, keeping in mind the large Poorvanchali community residing in the national capital.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the concerned authorities is expected to be signed soon to operationalise these services and strengthen travel connectivity between the two regions.
Focus on Affordable and Seamless Travel
The minister said the initiative reflects the Delhi Government’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and making interstate travel more comfortable and accessible.
He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is working to expand interstate mobility while providing reliable, affordable and convenient travel options for citizens.
