New Delhi, September 4: The Karkardooma Court of Delhi has granted bail to suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain in a case related to the 2020 Delhi riots on a bond of Rs 1 lakh.

He has been granted bail in northeast Delhi riots case in which a person identified as Ajay Goswami Gautam was shot at in the Khajuri Khas area on February 25.

Delivering the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachal said that many witnesses are common in all the FIRs, and that the high court had considered the merits in the earlier two cases before granting bail to him.

Significantly, it is pertinent to note that despite getting bail, Tahir Hussain will not be able to leave jail and will remain in judicial custody in other cases registered against him.

Earlier in July, the high court had granted bail to the former AAP Councillor in other five cases related to Delhi riots.
“In that situation for this court, there may not be a reason to take a different view. This material change in the circumstance in itself becomes a ground to grant bail to the accused/applicant in this case as well,” the court stated.

The Delhi Police has registered a total of 11 cases against Hussain in connection with the Delhi Riots erupted in February 2020. The cases registered against Hussain include murder, rioting and attempting to commit criminal conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the delhi court had also earlier passed an order on framing of charges against Hussain in a money-laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The court had said Hussain in a deceitful manner withdrew money from the accounts of certain companies owned or controlled by him through bogus and malafide transactions. The court added, that the bogus entry operators used fake bills and made Hussain the beneficiary, and he further used the same money towards the riots.
