New Delhi | March 15, 2026 — Delhi Food Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reassured residents that there is no shortage of LPG in the national capital and urged people not to panic over rumours about cooking gas availability.
Addressing concerns about supply disruptions, the minister said the Delhi Government has taken proactive steps to monitor the situation and prevent hoarding or unfair trade practices.
Government Teams Monitoring LPG Supply
Sirsa informed that the government has deployed 70 monitoring teams comprising officials from the Police, Weights and Measures Department, and the Food and Supplies Department. These teams are actively inspecting markets, checking stock levels and taking strict action against hoarding or any illegal activities related to LPG distribution.
He said global supply disruptions in the Gulf region have created some pressure on international markets, while rumours at the local level have triggered unnecessary panic buying. The minister urged residents to remain calm and avoid stocking LPG unnecessarily.
Sirsa also criticised certain opposition voices for spreading fear, saying misinformation during sensitive times can lead to confusion among the public.
Commercial LPG Distribution System Introduced
The minister stated that commercial LPG cylinder sales have begun in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in coordination with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
Under this system, up to 20 percent of average daily commercial LPG consumption, estimated at around 1,800 cylinders, will be supplied through a priority-based distribution system. This arrangement is designed to ensure uninterrupted supply for essential sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, restaurants and dairies.
The policy mandates regulated distribution through 19-kg commercial cylinders, with bookings managed on a first-in-first-out basis to prevent hoarding and ensure fair allocation.
Government Monitoring Situation Closely
Joint enforcement teams are monitoring compliance to ensure that commercial users receive their supplies while domestic LPG needs remain fully prioritised.
Sirsa said that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is personally reviewing daily updates regarding LPG supply and distribution to ensure smooth availability across the city.
Reassuring citizens, the minister stated that there is no need for any panic, as LPG supplies in Delhi remain stable and well managed.
He also encouraged residents to report any concerns through official helplines, assuring that complaints would be addressed promptly.
