The Greater Noida Authority has taken strict action against environmental violations by imposing a penalty of ₹54.32 lakh on Ajnara Homes (APY Realty), located in Sector-16B. The action has been taken for failure to operate the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), discharge of untreated sewage, illegal extraction of groundwater and improper management of solid waste. The Authority has also written to the police seeking registration of an FIR against the builder.

The action was carried out under a special enforcement drive launched on the directions of Greater Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer N. G. Ravi Kumar. As part of the drive, the Sewer Department issued notices to 202 builder societies, seeking details regarding the installed capacity and functioning of their STPs, and whether treated sewage water was being reused for horticulture and other permissible purposes.
In the case of Ajnara Homes, despite repeated communication from the Authority, no information was provided by the builder regarding STP operations. Following complaints from residents, a team led by Senior Manager of the Sewer Department, Sunny Yadav, conducted a site inspection. During the inspection, the STP was found to be completely non-functional and reportedly shut down for the past two years.
The society comprises around 2,300 flats, generating an estimated 1.15 MLD of sewage daily. It was found that untreated sewage was being discharged directly into a drain. When the drain line became choked, sewage was diverted into the basement, creating a serious health and safety crisis for residents. This practice is in clear violation of the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) as well as the rules of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB).
Additionally, groundwater was being illegally extracted for gardening and landscaping purposes, which is also against environmental norms. Considering the gravity of these violations, the Sewer Department imposed a penalty of ₹50 lakh on Ajnara Homes (APY Realty). The builder has been directed to deposit the penalty amount in the Authority’s account within seven working days.
Furthermore, the Health Department of the Greater Noida Authority imposed an additional penalty of ₹4.32 lakh for improper disposal and management of solid waste generated by the society. With this, the total penalty imposed on the builder amounts to ₹54.32 lakh.
The Authority has instructed the builder to immediately make the STP operational and ensure reuse of treated sewage water for flushing, irrigation and other approved purposes. A warning has also been issued that any further violations may lead to action under the lease conditions.
Greater Noida Authority Additional CEO Sunil Kumar Singh has appealed to all builder societies to ensure that sewage is properly treated through STPs and that treated water is reused for horticulture and other non-potable purposes, in order to protect the environment and safeguard public health.
