New Delhi | March 16, 2026 — In a significant move aimed at strengthening social inclusion, the Delhi Government has approved free bus travel for transgender persons across all routes operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses managed by the Transport Department.
The decision was taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, marking an important step toward ensuring equal access to public transportation for members of the transgender community.
Free Travel on Same Pattern as Women’s Scheme
According to officials, eligible transgender residents of Delhi will be able to travel free of cost in DTC and cluster buses under a system similar to the existing free travel scheme for women passengers.
The initiative will follow the same operational mechanism already in place for women commuters, ensuring a smooth implementation without major administrative changes.
Promoting Social Inclusion and Dignity
Officials said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate governance framework.
By removing financial barriers to transportation, the scheme is expected to help transgender persons travel more freely across the city for education, employment, healthcare and other daily needs.
Government Emphasises Equal Access to Public Services
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government is committed to creating a more equitable and inclusive Delhi, where every citizen can access public services with dignity and equal opportunity.
She noted that the initiative represents a meaningful step toward ensuring that members of the transgender community are not left behind in urban mobility and public service access.
The decision is being seen as an important measure to strengthen social justice and inclusive urban transport in the national capital.
