A horrific road accident occurred on Sunday evening in Noida, highlighting once again the deadly consequences of overspeeding and loss of control on elevated roads. A pickup truck carrying around 13 passengers, including women, children, and elderly individuals, overturned on the FNG (Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad) Bridge near Parthala Bahlolpur. The crash was so severe that several passengers were flung off the bridge, plunging nearly 25 feet down onto the road below. Two people are reported to be in critical condition, while over a dozen others have sustained serious injuries. Police and emergency teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving distress calls.
Horrific Crash on the FNG Bridge
Eyewitness accounts describe a devastating scene around 5 p.m. when the pickup, reportedly coming from the Bishrakh Hanuman Temple and heading towards Sarfabad, lost control while negotiating a sharp curve on the bridge. The vehicle, traveling from the Hindon side, suddenly veered off and struck the divider with great force, causing it to overturn. The impact was so powerful that passengers sitting in the rear section were thrown out of the vehicle.
Sushil Pandit, a bystander who witnessed the incident, said the moment was nothing short of terrifying. “The pickup flipped in seconds. We heard a loud crash, and before we knew it, people were screaming for help. Some had fallen straight off the bridge, and others lay injured on the road,” he recalled. He immediately alerted emergency services by dialing 112 and also informed local police officers, who responded swiftly.
According to initial reports, around 12 people were injured, including musicians (dhol players), women, children, and elderly passengers who were traveling together in the pickup. The vehicle was believed to be part of a local procession or community gathering. Police sources confirmed that after the vehicle overturned, about four to six individuals were ejected off the bridge, falling approximately 25 feet onto the road below. The rest were thrown onto the bridge itself.
Emergency Response and Injured Shifted to Hospitals
Within minutes of the accident, police teams from the Bishrakh police station and local ambulance services reached the site. The rescue operation was challenging due to the height of the bridge and the scattered condition of the injured. Some victims were lying motionless below the bridge, while others were trapped under the overturned pickup. Local residents joined hands with police personnel to lift the vehicle and pull the injured out safely.
Police officials stated that two of the most critically injured victims were immediately referred to a hospital in Bishrakh for intensive care. Three to four others were admitted to Bhardwaj Hospital, where doctors reported multiple fractures and severe injuries to limbs. Preliminary medical examinations suggest that many of the injured suffered broken bones, deep wounds, and head trauma due to the impact of the fall and the collision.
According to investigators, the cause of the accident appears to be the driver’s failure to control the vehicle while descending a slope on the bridge. The pickup, carrying more passengers than its capacity, lost balance at the sharp curve, leading to the fatal overturn. The driver reportedly attempted to swerve away from the divider, but the weight shift caused the vehicle to tilt and topple. Police said that the pickup finally came to a halt after slamming into the side wall of the bridge, which likely prevented an even greater tragedy.
Eyewitnesses also pointed out that the bridge’s turn where the accident took place is notoriously dangerous. Several past incidents have been reported there due to poor visibility and sudden turns. Residents have repeatedly urged authorities to install warning signs and speed-control barriers at that stretch to prevent accidents.
The Noida police have taken the damaged vehicle into custody and initiated an inquiry to determine if negligence or overloading contributed to the crash. They also plan to examine the condition of the pickup for any technical faults, such as brake failure or tire burst. Officials noted that the initial findings strongly suggest speeding as a primary cause, compounded by the heavy load and sharp turn.
In the wake of this accident, local authorities are expected to review safety measures on the FNG Bridge, which serves as a major connector between Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad. The incident once again raises pressing concerns about road safety on elevated highways where barriers are often inadequate to prevent vehicles from plunging off the edge.
The injured remain under medical observation, and police officials have assured that a detailed report will be submitted after collecting eyewitness testimonies and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The horrifying accident stands as a stark reminder of how a moment’s loss of control on a high-speed corridor can lead to devastating consequences for families and communities.
