New Delhi, January 8, 2026: The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Vijender Gupta, informed the House on Thursday that a video clip related to the Leader of the Opposition, Atishi, has been formally sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi, for detailed examination. The decision was taken amid allegations raised by the Opposition that the video clip in question had been tampered with, prompting the Assembly to initiate a forensic inquiry to establish the factual position.

Making a statement in the House, the Speaker said that clear instructions have been issued to the Assembly Secretariat to hand over the concerned video clip to the forensic department without delay. He further stated that the forensic laboratory has been requested to complete the examination and submit its report within a period of 15 days. According to the Speaker, the objective of this exercise is to ensure transparency and arrive at an evidence-based conclusion regarding the authenticity of the video.

The Speaker clarified that the decision to send the video clip for forensic analysis was taken in view of the serious nature of the allegations made by the Opposition. He said that the Opposition had claimed that the video clip involving the Leader of the Opposition had been altered or tampered with, which raised questions that needed to be addressed through an independent and scientific process. In light of these claims, and with the consent of the ruling party, it was decided that the matter should be referred to the State Forensic Science Laboratory.

Addressing the House, Vijender Gupta emphasized that the Assembly remains committed to upholding democratic norms and ensuring fairness in its proceedings. He stated that when allegations of such a nature are made within the House, it becomes necessary to rely on impartial institutions to verify the facts. The forensic examination, he said, will help in determining whether the video clip is genuine or has been manipulated in any manner.

The Speaker also drew attention to the conduct of the Leader of the Opposition in this matter. He informed the House that despite being repeatedly called upon to present her version and clarify her stand, Atishi has not yet come forward to place her explanation before the Assembly. He noted that several opportunities were provided for her to address the issue on the floor of the House, but she has so far not availed herself of those opportunities.

According to the Speaker, the inquiry process is being carried out to ascertain the factual position in a fair and objective manner. He said that the Assembly cannot proceed on the basis of allegations and counter-allegations alone, and therefore, it is essential to establish the truth through proper verification. The forensic report, once received, will play a crucial role in guiding the next course of action.

Vijender Gupta further stated that the Assembly Secretariat has been instructed to fully cooperate with the forensic department and provide all necessary material related to the video clip to facilitate a thorough examination. He reiterated that the Assembly expects the forensic laboratory to adhere to the stipulated timeline and submit its findings within 15 days, as sought by the House.

The Speaker’s statement comes at a time when political tensions between the ruling party and the Opposition have been running high inside the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The issue of the video clip has added to the ongoing confrontations, with both sides maintaining their respective positions. While the Opposition has alleged tampering, the ruling party has agreed to the forensic examination to settle the matter conclusively.

Concluding his statement, the Speaker said that the Assembly will take an appropriate view after the forensic report is received. He underscored that the inquiry is aimed solely at establishing facts and maintaining the dignity and credibility of the House. Until the forensic examination is completed and the report is placed before the Assembly, he said, no final conclusions should be drawn regarding the matter.
