In a significant step towards strengthening digital education, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat has handed over a batch of functional old laptops to the Education Department for use in government schools. In the first phase, 15 laptops have been transferred to the Directorate of Education to support students’ access to digital learning tools.
The initiative emphasizes the optimal use of public resources for nation-building by repurposing existing assets for educational benefit. It reflects a practical approach to resource management while enhancing technological access in classrooms.
Boost to Digital Learning in Schools
The laptops will provide students with hands-on experience in using computers and digital tools, thereby improving the quality of classroom learning. This exposure is expected to enhance students’ technical skills and overall learning outcomes.
In the coming phases, a total of 50 to 60 laptops will be distributed to the Education Department, with priority given to students who lack access to digital resources. The move aims to reduce the digital divide and ensure equitable access to technology.
Reuse of Resources After NEVA Implementation
Following the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) during the Monsoon Session 2025, legislative processes have become fully digital. As a result, new computer systems were procured, making older laptops surplus.
Instead of discarding these devices, the Secretariat has decided to repurpose them for educational use, ensuring efficient utilization of government resources. This initiative stands as an example of sustainable and responsible governance.
Promoting Inclusion and Future Readiness
With the phased distribution of laptops, students in government schools will gain direct exposure to digital tools, helping them develop essential computer skills. This will prepare them for a technology-driven future and enhance their academic capabilities.
The initiative focuses on reaching students who lack access to such resources, ensuring inclusive growth and equal opportunities in education.
