Gautam Buddh Nagar:
In a significant milestone for Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious film city project, shooting for the film Mom 2 has commenced at the Bayview Bhutani International Film City in Greater Noida. The development marks the first film production to go on floors at the upcoming Jewar Film City, even as construction work at the site continues in phases.
Sunday proved to be an important day for the state’s dream project as the sound of “action” echoed for the first time within the film city premises. The launch of shooting signals not just the beginning of a film, but the start of what officials and developers describe as a new chapter for the film industry in Uttar Pradesh.
From Land Allocation to Active Shooting in One Year
The land for the film city project was formally allotted on February 27, 2025. Within just one year, construction of film sets began at the site, and now the team of Mom 2 has started filming key sequences, including crucial scenes and the climax, at the location.
Although infrastructure development at the film city is still being carried out in stages, the early commencement of shooting is being seen as a strong indicator of the project’s rapid progress and operational readiness.
Industry observers say the move demonstrates the state’s push to position Uttar Pradesh as a major hub for film production and entertainment business.
Permanent Sets to Support Continuous Productions
Several more films are proposed to be shot at the film city this year. In a strategic move aimed at fostering sustained production activity, the sets constructed for Mom 2 will be retained even after the completion of shooting. These sets will be available for reuse in future film and OTT projects.
Developers believe this approach will create a stable and continuous creative environment, encouraging back-to-back productions rather than one-off shoots. The availability of ready-made sets is also expected to reduce costs and preparation time for upcoming projects.
Officials associated with the project have indicated that the long-term goal is to transform the site into a full-fledged production ecosystem with ongoing filming schedules, technical facilities, and post-production infrastructure.
Star Cast and Production Details
Mom 2 features an ensemble cast including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Khushi Kapoor, Karishma Tanna, Jisshu Sengupta, and Manoj Pahwa in key roles. The film is directed by Girish Kohli, who had also contributed to the writing of the 2017 film Mom.
The project is being produced by Boney Kapoor and Akshay Puri under their respective banners, Bayview Projects and 12th Street Entertainment.
The original Mom, released in 2017, was a critically acclaimed film, and the sequel is expected to carry forward the narrative in a new direction. While specific plot details of Mom 2 have not been disclosed, filming of major portions at the Jewar Film City highlights the importance of the location for the production.
Emotional Moment for Boney Kapoor
Speaking about the commencement of the shoot, producer Boney Kapoor described it as an emotional moment. He said the vision for the film city was always to create a world-class creative hub.
He noted that the project’s journey has begun not with a ceremonial foundation stone, but with an actual film shoot, which makes it unique. According to him, the objective is not merely to construct buildings but to build a comprehensive environment for storytellers and creators.
Project Development and Partnership
The film city is being developed by Bayview Bhutani Film City Private Limited, a joint venture between Boney Kapoor and the Bhutani Group. The project is being executed under an agreement with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
The partnership aims to develop state-of-the-art production infrastructure that can attract filmmakers from across India and abroad. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to include shooting floors, outdoor sets, post-production units, and allied services, creating employment and business opportunities in the region.
A New Beginning for Film Business in Uttar Pradesh
The start of Mom 2 shooting is being viewed as more than just a cinematic milestone. It represents the operational takeoff of a long-envisioned project intended to boost the entertainment industry in the state.
With additional productions already proposed for the current year and permanent sets being retained for future use, the Jewar Film City is gradually shaping into an active production zone.
As cameras roll and major scenes are filmed at the site, the project signals a broader shift—positioning Uttar Pradesh as an emerging destination for film trade and creative enterprise.
Further developments are expected as construction progresses and more projects join the production pipeline at the newly operational film city.
