The Congress appointed former MLA Devender Yadav as the interim president of its Delhi unit, following the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely. Devender Yadav, who previously represented the Badli assembly constituency in Delhi, expressed gratitude to the party leadership for their trust in him. He pledged to uphold the party’s vision and work diligently in his new role.
Devender Yadav, currently serving as the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) Punjab in-charge, will continue his responsibilities in Punjab alongside his new role in Delhi. In response to his appointment, Devender Yadav emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration within the party, highlighting the contributions of senior colleagues in the Delhi Congress.
Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken endorsed Devender Yadav’s appointment, citing his extensive experience and organizational skills. Maken also addressed the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely, emphasizing the need for unity within the party despite occasional setbacks.
Arvinder Singh Lovely’s resignation, prompted by disagreements over the alliance with AAP and the selection of Congress candidates, underscored internal tensions within the Delhi Congress. While some leaders called for the removal of AICC’s Delhi in-charge Deepak Babaria, others viewed Lovely’s departure as an unfortunate development during the ongoing general elections.
The BJP criticized the alliance between AAP and Congress, labeling it as “unnatural” and aimed at concealing corruption. Meanwhile, Arvinder Singh Lovely’s resignation marked a significant shift in his political journey, having previously resigned from the post of Delhi Congress president in 2015, only to return to the Congress fold after a brief stint with the BJP.
