In a dramatic turn of events, self-styled spiritual influencer ‘IIT Baba’, also known as Abhay Singh, alleged that he was assaulted during a live debate on a private news channel in Noida on Friday. The incident has sparked discussions about safety during televised debates and the growing intolerance in media discourse.
According to his complaint, a group of saffron-clad individuals barged into the newsroom where the debate was being conducted and allegedly misbehaved with him. He further claimed that they physically assaulted him using sticks, leaving him shaken. The exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, but his allegations have raised concerns about security protocols at television studios, particularly during heated political or religious discussions.
Following the incident, IIT Baba staged a protest outside the police outpost in Sector 126, demanding action against the perpetrators. He remained at the spot for hours, urging authorities to take swift action. However, the situation took a different course when the police intervened and engaged in a discussion with him. After a period of negotiations, he chose to withdraw his protest.
Bhupendra Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 126 police station, confirmed that while IIT Baba had initially approached them with a complaint, he was later convinced to step back and decided not to formally lodge a case. The police have not yet commented on whether any further investigation will take place.
IIT Baba, who gained widespread recognition during the Maha Kumbh, has been a vocal figure in debates on social and religious issues. His presence in television debates has often drawn both support and criticism due to his outspoken views. The alleged attack raises important questions about the security measures in place for public figures participating in media discussions and the broader implications of rising aggression in public discourse.
While the matter appears to have de-escalated with IIT Baba stepping back from legal action, the incident has triggered debates on social media, with many questioning whether news studios should enhance security to prevent such disruptions. The role of responsible debate and maintaining decorum in public discussions remains a key concern in the wake of this controversy.
