New Delhi, January 22, 2026:
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday inaugurated a new Aadhaar Seva Kendra at the Azadpur Metro Station complex, marking a significant step toward strengthening digital public service delivery in the national capital. With the launch of this centre, residents of nearby areas will now be able to access Aadhaar-related services conveniently, without having to travel long distances.
The newly inaugurated Aadhaar Seva Kendra will provide a wide range of essential services, including Aadhaar enrolment, biometric updates, correction of personal details, address changes, and enrolment of children. Officials said the centre has been designed to reduce waiting time and make Aadhaar-related services more accessible and citizen-friendly.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that approval has been granted for eight new Aadhaar Seva Kendras across Delhi. Out of these, five centres were inaugurated simultaneously on Thursday. She said the expansion of Aadhaar service centres will significantly strengthen the Aadhaar infrastructure in the capital and ensure that residents can avail themselves of services in a timely and efficient manner.
Describing the initiative as an important step toward advancing the Digital India mission, the Chief Minister said the new Aadhaar Seva Kendras will promote good governance, transparency, and ease of living for citizens. She congratulated the people of Delhi and said that the government remains committed to bringing essential digital services closer to the public.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Model Town MLA Ashok Goyal Devaraha, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer Bhuvnesh Kumar, local councillors, and senior officials from concerned departments.
Aadhaar as the Foundation of Transparent Governance
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Aadhaar has emerged as a strong foundation of good governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She stated that Aadhaar has ensured dignity for the poor, protection of rights, and strengthened the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat by creating a reliable and transparent system for delivering government benefits.
She noted that Aadhaar has enabled direct benefit transfers to eligible beneficiaries, eliminating intermediaries and leakages. According to her, more than 143 crore citizens across the country are linked with Aadhaar, while approximately 2.5 crore residents in Delhi have already been enrolled. Aadhaar, she said, has provided citizens with a credible digital identity and strengthened trust in the delivery of welfare schemes.
Eliminating Fake and Duplicate Beneficiaries
The Chief Minister highlighted the role of Aadhaar’s biometric and iris verification systems in curbing fake documents, illegal identities, and duplicate beneficiaries. She said the Aadhaar framework has played a crucial role in protecting public resources and enhancing the credibility of government schemes.
Citing national figures, she said that Aadhaar-based verification has led to the elimination of more than four crore fake LPG connections, removal of over five crore duplicate ration cards, exclusion of more than 11 lakh ineligible rural beneficiaries, and deletion of over 31 lakh minority beneficiaries who were availing benefits illegally. In addition, more than 12 lakh duplicate social welfare beneficiaries and over one crore fake beneficiaries under women and child development schemes have been identified and removed from the system.
She said these measures have strengthened transparency in the country’s economic system and ensured that government funds reach only genuine and eligible beneficiaries.
Aadhaar Services for Children in Government Schools
The Chief Minister also informed that the Delhi Government is extending Aadhaar enrolment and biometric update facilities for children directly through government schools. Under this initiative, biometric updates of nearly two lakh children have already been completed. She said this step will help ensure timely access to benefits related to education, health, and nutrition schemes.
Push for Digital and Paperless Governance
Highlighting administrative reforms, the Chief Minister said the Delhi Government is rapidly implementing e-Office, e-filing, and paperless governance systems. She said that today, official work from the Chief Minister’s Office to the Legislative Assembly is being carried out through a digital file system, making decision-making faster, more transparent, and more accountable.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, she said the objective is to ensure easy access to digital services for every citizen, so that the benefits of governance reach the last person in the queue in a timely and transparent manner. The expansion of Aadhaar Seva Kendras, she added, is a key step in achieving this goal and strengthening citizen trust in public service delivery.
