New Delhi, January 23, 2026 | On the occasion of Parakram Diwas, marking the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the Delhi Government organised a free assistive devices distribution camp for senior citizens and persons with disabilities at the Barat Ghar in A-Block, Shahbad Dairy. The camp was conducted under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and Sugamya Sahayak Yojana, benefitting nearly 150 elderly residents and differently-abled persons from the area.
The initiative aimed at improving mobility, independence and quality of life for senior citizens by providing them with essential assistive equipment along with professional guidance for their proper use and maintenance.
Specialists Ensure Proper Assessment and Fitting
During the camp, medical specialists and technical experts conducted on-the-spot physical assessments of beneficiaries to ensure that the assistive devices were accurately suited to individual needs. The experts explained in detail the correct usage, handling and long-term maintenance of each device, enabling beneficiaries to use them safely and effectively in daily life.
Officials said that such on-site assessment and fitting helps avoid misuse or discomfort, particularly for elderly persons who often face mobility challenges and health complications.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Several beneficiaries shared that earlier such camps were either not organised in their locality or information about them did not reach people on time. Many said that this initiative had made a significant difference in their lives, especially for those who were unable to afford assistive devices on their own.
Expressing gratitude, beneficiaries thanked Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh for ensuring that welfare schemes reach people at the grassroots level. Many elderly participants conveyed their blessings and appreciation for the government’s efforts to support them with dignity and care.
Government Committed to Senior Citizen Welfare
Addressing the gathering, Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh said that this was not a one-time initiative, but part of the Delhi Government’s sustained effort to support senior citizens and persons with disabilities. He said similar camps have been organised regularly across Delhi, with expert support to ensure both distribution of devices and complete guidance on their use.
The Minister noted that a large number of elderly beneficiaries participate in every camp, which reflects growing trust in government welfare schemes. He added that under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, the government’s objective is to help eligible and needy senior citizens lead a dignified, safe and self-reliant life.
Wide Range of Assistive Devices Distributed
During the camp, beneficiaries were provided assistive devices based on their specific medical and physical requirements. These included wheelchairs, walkers, wheel-bearing commode chairs, hearing aids, spectacles, silicone foam pillows, spinal support belts, knee braces, cervical collars and other essential aids.
Officials said the selection of devices was done carefully to address mobility issues, hearing impairment, posture-related problems and other age-related health conditions commonly faced by senior citizens.
Focus on Antyodaya and Inclusive Development
The Social Welfare Minister said the initiative aligns with the Antyodaya vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which focuses on reaching the last person in society. He added that under the leadership and directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is working to ensure that no senior citizen is deprived of essential assistive devices due to lack of awareness or resources.
He emphasised that continuous assessment and distribution camps are being organised across different localities so that welfare benefits reach senior citizens and persons with disabilities in a timely and effective manner.
More Camps Planned for Shahbad Dairy and Nearby Areas
The Minister also informed that similar camps will continue to be organised in Shahbad Dairy and surrounding areas in the coming months. The aim is to expand the coverage of the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and Sugamya Sahayak Yojana, ensuring that more elderly residents receive the support they need to live independently and with confidence.
Officials said the camp once again highlighted the Delhi Government’s focus on inclusive welfare, social security and ensuring that senior citizens remain active, safe and respected members of society.
