Gautam Buddh Nagar, January 13, 2026
A delegation from the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), led by national president Sukhveer Khalifa, submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar and Member of Parliament Mahesh Sharma, demanding electricity connections for residents of flood-prone areas, particularly the ‘Kamra’ community, who have been facing prolonged hardships due to lack of access to power.
The delegation, highlighting the crucial contribution of the Kamra community to the city’s functioning, handed over the memorandum to ADM Manglesh Dubey on behalf of the District Magistrate. The memorandum emphasized the loss of revenue to the government caused by the non-provision of electricity connections and the illegal extraction of money by middlemen supplying power through unofficial channels. The BKP warned that if electricity connections were not provided promptly, it would be compelled to escalate the matter through protests and demonstrations to raise their voice against administrative inaction.
ADM Dubey responded that a meeting regarding issues related to NTPC Dadri would take place with the CMD of NTPC within the next 20 days. Meanwhile, MP Mahesh Sharma acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Kamra community and agreed that they have a legitimate right to electricity connections. However, he has not taken strict action to ensure actual provision of connections, raising questions about the follow-through on commitments.
BKP national president Sukhveer Khalifa reiterated that the organization is fully committed to ensuring that residents of the flood-prone areas receive their basic right to electricity. He emphasized that the Parishad is prepared to fight against any obstacles preventing the provision of connections. Khalifa further stated that the BKP stands firmly with farmers and labor communities, ready to protect their rights and ensure that they are not deprived of essential services.
The delegation’s visit underscores the ongoing struggle of vulnerable communities in Gautam Buddh Nagar and highlights the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad’s proactive approach in advocating for the rights of residents in flood-affected zones. The BKP has urged authorities to take immediate action to provide electricity, framing it as both a fundamental right and a matter of public welfare.
The memorandum also called attention to systemic lapses in governance that have allowed illegal distribution of electricity, causing financial loss to the government while leaving residents dependent on unauthorized sources. BKP leaders stressed that timely provision of electricity connections is critical for the safety, well-being, and development of communities living in flood-affected regions.
The Parishad’s statement concluded by reaffirming its commitment to championing the cause of farmers, laborers, and marginalized communities, emphasizing that it will continue to fight on every platform to ensure their fundamental rights are secured and protected.
Sukhveer Khalifa said, “Ensuring electricity for the Kamra community is not just a demand, it is their basic right. We will persistently pursue this issue through all lawful and democratic means until justice is delivered.”
BKP has called on the administration and elected representatives to act swiftly to resolve the issue, highlighting that any delay could compel the organization to intensify its protests to draw attention to the plight of residents in flood-prone areas.
The delegation’s visit signals a strong message that the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad remains committed to addressing local grievances, advocating for essential services, and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable communities in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
