Noida, Uttar Pradesh | Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the government over the inauguration of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, alleging that the project is being used for political and commercial purposes rather than public benefit.
Addressing the Samajwadi Samata Bhaichara rally in Dadri, Akhilesh Yadav criticized the timing and intent behind the airport’s inauguration. He remarked that the event appeared to be aimed at “selling” the project rather than ensuring its long-term utility for the people of Uttar Pradesh.
He further alleged that out of seven airports in the state, six are no longer functioning effectively, raising concerns over the sustainability and management of such infrastructure projects. He said that instead of merely inaugurating projects, the government should assure the public that these assets will not be privatized or sold in the future.
In a strongly worded statement, Akhilesh also referred to past political incidents, stating that those who had shown disregard or hostility in the past cannot understand the sentiments of the people. His remarks were seen as a direct response to recent political narratives emerging around the airport inauguration.
The Samajwadi Party leader questioned whether the benefits of large-scale infrastructure projects are actually reaching ordinary citizens. He highlighted issues such as employment, farmers’ concerns, and regional imbalances, suggesting that these remain unaddressed despite claims of rapid development.
The rally in Dadri is being viewed as part of a broader political strategy to consolidate support in western Uttar Pradesh, a region that holds significant electoral importance. By raising concerns over infrastructure projects like the Jewar airport, Akhilesh Yadav attempted to challenge the ruling party’s development narrative.
Political analysts believe that such statements reflect an ongoing contest between the ruling government and the opposition over the interpretation of development. While the government projects large infrastructure projects as symbols of progress, the opposition continues to question their intent, execution, and long-term impact.
The exchange highlights how major projects like the Noida International Airport have become central to political discourse in Uttar Pradesh. As elections approach, both sides are expected to intensify their messaging, using development as a key issue to connect with voters.
