Under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi, the Delhi Government continues to take decisive steps to reduce air pollution and ensure long-term improvement in the capital’s air quality.
As part of these efforts, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) conducted a comprehensive enforcement drive against diesel generator sets operating in violation of the directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The inspection drive was carried out across the entire NCT of Delhi from 29 January to 3 February 2026.
During the campaign, diesel generator sets installed at 300 industrial and commercial establishments were inspected. Violations of CAQM directions were detected at 108 units, following which sealing memos and Show Cause Notices (SCNs) were issued.
The Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Industries, Food & Supplies, Government of Delhi, Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa, stated,
“This action sends a clear message that Delhi will not compromise on clean air. Diesel generator sets operating without approved emission control systems pose a serious threat to public health and the environment. Any violation of CAQM directions will not be tolerated. The Delhi Government is fully committed to strict enforcement, clean fuel adoption, and green technologies to achieve sustained improvement in air quality.”
Inspections revealed that the concerned establishments had neither converted their diesel generator sets to clean fuel technologies nor installed the mandatory emission control devices, as required under CAQM Direction Nos. 76 and 87. As per Direction No. 76, the operation of diesel generator sets without retrofitted emission control devices (RECD) or PNG-based dual fuel kits is strictly prohibited.
DPCC further clarified that environmental compensation will also be imposed on the defaulting units as per prescribed norms. Operation of diesel generator sets will be allowed only after full compliance with CAQM standards, installation of approved emission control systems, or conversion to clean fuel alternatives.
