New Delhi
Targeting the alleged misinformation being spread by the Aam Aadmi Party over ration card verification in Delhi, BJP MLA Shri Harish Khurana said that the opposition is deliberately misleading the public, while official data has now exposed the truth.
He stated that between 2015 and 2024, the AAP government issued a large number of ration cards without proper verification, depriving genuine beneficiaries and the underprivileged of their rightful entitlements.
“Some unemployed opposition leaders are trying to set a fake narrative, but the people of Delhi know how ration cards were issued over the past decade,” Khurana said.
Ration Cards Issued Without Verification During AAP Regime
The MLA informed that from 2014 to 2024, 9,22,766 applications for ration cards were submitted in Delhi, many of which were approved without adequate scrutiny.
He said that when the current government under Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta initiated verification as per central guidelines, massive irregularities surfaced.
Serious Irregularities Uncovered During Verification
- Sharing key findings, Shri Khurana said:
- 2,02,000 ration cards were found suspicious, involving 7.07 lakh beneficiaries
- 6,038 cards were issued in the names of deceased persons
- 16,000 duplicate ration cards were detected
- Over 1,44,000 cardholders had annual incomes exceeding ₹6 lakh
“When those earning over ₹6 lakh are given subsidised ration, where will the poor go?” he questioned.
Landowners, Vehicle Owners and Company Directors Declared ‘Poor’
Further irregularities revealed that:
- 2,76,000 cardholders were issued SMS notices
- Only 227 responses have been received so far
- 1,59,000 cardholders owned land
- 77,000 owned vehicles
- 2,700 GST holders with turnover above ₹25 lakh were beneficiaries
- 16,064 duplicate cards were linked to other states
“This is the real AAP model—declaring landowners, car owners and company directors as poor,” Khurana said.
Legal Verification Under NFSA, No Genuine Beneficiary Affected
He clarified that the re-verification process is being conducted strictly under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) through committees chaired by District Magistrates.
“No Food Supply Office has been shut. No ration card has been cancelled yet, and no eligible beneficiary will lose benefits. Everyone is being given a fair opportunity to establish eligibility,” he said.
Questions on Rohingya and Bangladeshi Infiltrators
Raising serious concerns, Khurana asked,
“How many Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators were issued ration cards during AAP’s 10-year rule?”
Demand for White Paper
Concluding his statement, Shri Khurana said he would write to the Chief Minister demanding a White Paper on ration card issuance and distribution over the last decade.
“Re-verification is not about taking away rights, but about restoring the rights stolen by AAP. Those afraid of the truth are opposing this process,” he asserted.
