New Delhi, December 12, 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said her government is pursuing a multi-pronged and long-term strategy to effectively control pollution in the national capital, with a sharp focus on eliminating dust pollution. She said the construction of wall-to-wall roads across Delhi is being carried out at an accelerated pace as part of this effort, describing it as one of the most effective solutions for long-term dust control.
The Chief Minister said that to ensure there are no financial or administrative hurdles in implementing the plan, substantial funds running into several crores of rupees have been released to Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) for road construction and allied works. She underlined that pollution control cannot be achieved by government action alone and called for active participation from citizens to ensure lasting results.
Rekha Gupta made these remarks during her visit to the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency, where she inaugurated and inspected multiple development projects related to road construction, drain repairs, sewer line installation, high-mast lighting, park redevelopment and other civic infrastructure.
Addressing local residents and officials, the Chief Minister said that dust generated from broken roads, open edges and unfinished construction sites is one of the major contributors to air pollution in Delhi. She said wall-to-wall roads, where the entire width of the road is properly paved without exposed edges, offer a permanent solution to dust accumulation along roadsides. She directed MLAs and civic agencies to ensure that all new road construction and repair works strictly follow the wall-to-wall model.
The Chief Minister further clarified that if additional funds are required to complete these works, the government will release them without delay. She said the objective is to remove all bottlenecks and ensure uniform implementation across the city.
Criticising previous governments, Rekha Gupta said earlier administrations failed to develop a serious and coherent strategy to tackle pollution. She alleged that road development and dust control were neglected for years, with little attention paid to proper road width or quality construction. According to the Chief Minister, past efforts were largely limited to announcements and publicity campaigns, the consequences of which are now being borne by Delhi’s residents.
She said the present government is committed to delivering permanent and practical solutions to pollution. A dedicated budget has been allocated, and policies are being implemented based on expert recommendations rather than short-term measures. “Our aim is not temporary relief, but sustainable improvement in air quality,” she said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted several smaller but impactful interventions being implemented to reduce pollution, particularly during the winter months. She said night patrolling guards are being provided with electric heaters to prevent the burning of wood or waste for warmth. In addition, the government has initiated steps to provide electric or gas-powered irons to press workers, reducing the use of coal-fired irons that contribute significantly to local air pollution.
During her visit to Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta inaugurated RMC construction works for drains and lanes in the BH East area. She also launched a series of development projects, including the installation of a new water pipeline in CC Block, construction of RMC roads and drains, park redevelopment works and the installation of new CCTV cameras. The Chief Minister inspected the Senior Citizen Building and instructed officials to complete all pending works within the prescribed timelines.
The Chief Minister also visited Sahipur village, where she inaugurated multiple development projects, including the construction of a boundary wall around the johad, installation of a new sewer line and other civic improvement works. She said the comprehensive development of rural areas within the capital is a key priority for the Delhi Government and assured residents that infrastructure gaps in villages will be addressed on a priority basis.
Later, Rekha Gupta launched development works in BK-1 and BK-2 blocks, including the construction of new lanes and drains, installation of a new sewer line, erection of high-mast lights, redevelopment of parks, inspection of the swimming pool area and construction of roads and drains in the police colony. She also inaugurated new facilities in the park, including a gym, a play station and solar lighting.
The Chief Minister said development works are progressing rapidly across all parts of Delhi through MLAs, ensuring that local needs are addressed efficiently. She reiterated that building a “Viksit Delhi” is the government’s clear objective and said consistent efforts are being made to improve infrastructure, reduce pollution and enhance the quality of life for residents across the capital.
She concluded by urging citizens to cooperate with the government’s initiatives by avoiding practices that contribute to dust and smoke, stating that public awareness and participation are essential for achieving long-term pollution control in Delhi.
