Moscow, 24 Aug : Yevgeny Prigozhin, Wagner chief who mounted an unsuccessful coup against Russian President Vladimir Putin, died in a plane accident. The place carrying ten people including Prigozhin crashed about 100 km north of Moscow, Russian Civil Aviation Authority Rosaviatsia said. Prigozhin was on the list of passengers on the ill-fated plane. None of the passengers survived in the accident.
US President Joe Biden said that he is not surprised by the news. Prigozhin through a video post had announced on June 24 that 25,000 Wagner soldiers are marching towards Moscow. He challenged Putin and announced that Russia is going to get a new President within 24 hours. Prigozhin withdrew following intervention by Belarus. Putin had charged Prigozhin with treachery and stabbed in the back.
Prigozhin revolted against Putin as a large number of Wagner soldiers were killed in a missile attack launched by Russian forces. Wagner is a private military that fought with the Russian military against Ukraine. Prigozhin was the founder and chief of Wagner.
