A video message from the Prime Minister will be broadcast at 9 a.m. in the inaugural session, which will set the stage for a meaningful discussion on global trade and investment issues. The ministers will then deliberate on three sessions to build consensus on global trade and investment-related issues, with a focus on multilateral trade for global growth and prosperity, inclusive and flexible trade, and leveraging technology for paperless trade.
Earlier on Wednesday, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal discussed with journalists the G-20 trade and investment ministerial meeting. He said that Prime Minister Modi has given new thought to the whole world. With this new thinking, the G-20 has held more than 200 meetings in 60 cities in India, which has happened for the first time in any country in the world. He said that the World Leaders Summit is going to be held in India on September 8–9. The eyes of the whole world is focused on this.
He said that the members of the G-20 are waiting for consensus on the ‘Jaipur Action Plan’ for the promotion of industries, MSMEs, and global trade. We have been able to reach consensus on important points among the member states. He expressed hope that in the next two days, we will be able to come up with an agenda that can be implemented. This will help the world face any future crises.
He said that the Jaipur Action Plan will encourage industry and the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector and improve global trade. This will also help MSMEs expand their businesses and trade.
Giving information about the meeting of the G-20 group, Union Minister Goyal said that the officials of the concerned countries have been trying to build a consensus on priority points and prepare a document. He said that there are five main priorities in the G-20 meeting in Jaipur. Firstly, how to increase import-export for the growth of trade in countries. Second, how to strengthen the global supply chain. Third, how small and micro industries should progress. Fourth, how to strengthen logistics for business. Fifth, how to reform the World Trade Organisation. The first three TIWG meetings were held in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kevadia, respectively.
