Kolkata, 08 September (HS): The Trinamool Congress has won Dhupguri assembly by-election in West Bengal. In a close contest, Trinamool Congress candidate Nirmal Chandra Rai defeated BJP candidate Taapsee Roy by 4,883 votes.
Nirmal Chandra got a total of 96,961 votes while BJP candidate Tapasi Roy got around 4,883 less votes. CPI(M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy got only 13,666 votes.
After the seventh round of counting, Rai was consistently leading over BJP candidate Taapsee Roy. Whereas Left Front and Congress alliance candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy was out of the contest from the beginning.
On September 5, by-elections were held on seven assembly seats in six states, in which a direct electoral contest was seen between I.N.D.I.A alliance and NDA.
